A newsthread of interest to UK film-makers

There's been loads of rumours about what we can film in public places and what we can't. Stories about us even breaking the law by filming police offers have been reported on via respected media outlets and TV.

So this article is of interest to us all. How non-UK areas try to control what film-makers can do maybe can be mentioned here also.

Yes very useful William, thanks.

I have a cautionary tale. I did some filming recently on the London Underground using a small consumer camcorder thinking it wouldn't be a problem (I've done it before) but on leaving the station was stopped by LT staff who had been monitoring my activities on CCTV who demanded to know what I was doing. Their attitude was confrontational and accusatory and initially I was defensive but I soon realised they were close to confiscating the footage so became placatory and pleaded ignorance and eventually they let me go on my way, footage intact. They said still photography was OK but not moving images. Presumably the Tube is not classed as a public place.
