It's likely nothing to do with it being 8 bit video. You need to check your levels on the recorded video. You can check the levels using the Vegas' video scopes if you have the professional version.

So, what you are saying is that even if the video looks 'washed out' after rendering YUV to Lagarith, it still has the colors but I just need to correct the color back to same values using the Video Scope?
