Android Phone as Field Monitor

I am looking for a cheap solution for using an Android smart phone as a field monitor for my Sony A57. I know that I cannot just use an app and an OTG cable to make this work(Not an option for the A57). It does have HDMI out though. I'm wondering if there's a way to take that HDMI out signal and adapt it to the micro USB and be viewable on the phone.

Hoping someone has had some experience with this.

Re: Android Phone as Field Monitor or tethering

You can use an android app like Qdslrdashboard and a usb cable to the camera to tether the camera and get a live view on the phone.
Then there is the wifi option; from the web "DJI makes a device for streaming 1080p from a quadcopter called LIGHTBRIDGE. On the receiver they have a plug that goes HDMI to USB to display video feed on an Android phone or tablet."

Re: Android Phone as Field Monitor

Thanks for the reply. The Sony A57 doesn't support tethering via USB from what I can tell. The A58 does, but unfortunately I have 2 A57's.

I'll look into the DJI wireless. I have a DJI Phantom 3 Pro and use the Lightbridge via the controller which is connected to my phone or tablet via USB.

Seems like their should be a simple solution for this.

The A57 is older, and I believe before the "multi" plug was introduced? Also before the WiFi options showed up... Somehow I don't think it had an A/V out either, so you'd be stuck with the HDMI as the only "video out".

Re: Android Phone as Field Monitor

I'm interested in that ,also.
The newer phones have type C connector.
Maybe wireless?
The Sony PlayMemories app is not working with newer phones.
And with Nougat.
I got a "this software's not compatible" message on my Nexus 6p.
Bum....
