LCD glasses for XL1/2/H1, VX1, PD170, etc

These glasses look like a cheap gimmick to me, and I've read a few threads relating to similar offerings (varying in costs and quality)...but do they actually work if connected to a DV camera? Has anybody actually tried them?

These particluar models sold on Ebay seem to be just cheap plastic overpriced 5$ stuff (maybe I'm wrong):

...But, are there any higher end models that actually work, and can they improve on the regular colour viewfinders? (I would have thought not, or everyone would be using them by now).
