Export timeline, file size limit problem.

I'm working on a project which will result in a longer production than I've ever done before. The final productions will be about 1 hour each.

When I put the footage on my hard drive, every 18 minutes the import stoped and gave me a message that I reached the file limit size. I just kept repeating the process until I got the whole tape on the hard drive. This gave me 4 avi files to work with in Adobe Premeire 6.0.

I edited the 4 clips and together they comprised about 60 minutes on the timeline. I then tried to export the timeline to one AVI file but I could only get 19 minutes exported.

I keep getting the message that I've reached the file limit size for my drive. In the help menu for Adobe Premeire it says that this is a hard drive & capture card issue, not a Premeire software issue.

How do I change the settings on my hard drive to allow both the import of an hour of footage in one clip/file and also the export to one large avi file?

Assuming DV, 18 minutes is the 4GB file size limit imposed by using the FAT32 file system on your hard drive.

If you use a hard drive formatted with NTFS, you should find this problem goes away.

(I captured a single 3.5hr+ DV file the other day which takes up over 44GB!)

Is your drive formatted as NTFS? If it's FAT32 it is limited in file size and you will want to reformat as NTFS which has no file size limitations.

Thank you! I have one hard NTFS hard drive. I need to shift some files around now, but it will work. Thanks again!

....A 44GB file! Before now I've been working with importing clips of 2 minutes and less (mostly 10 to 15 seconds in most cases) in batch capture from a 1 hour DV tape. This is my first experience working with a 1 hour talking head video that just needs the front and end edited out for the final clip.
