How much is a GS100 now?

Allan mentioned the low US Dollar; so how much would a GS100 go for these days?

Thanks, Jean! And I can even pronounce your first name correctly (French was my 2nd language, after German). :-))

So:

YEN 102,000
$967.64$ USD
$1,272.28 CAD

Hehe, that's cheaper than buying the PV-DV953 in Canada---going price, $2450.

Hehe, Frank,

Please tell me how the average english speaker pronounce Jean-Philippe :)

The GS100 seem to be a really great deal these days. Too bad that it is the japanese version...

Ahh, you'd have to hear me pronounce it. I spent 5 years in a French boarding school when I was a kid. ;)

If I buy 102,000 Japanese YEN at my bank my cost is:

$1306.90 Canadian

If I buy a M.O. (bank draft) for 102.000 YEN. my cost is:

$1249.91 Canadian

If I use my M.C. for buying the cam for 102,000 YEN, it would cost me at least:

$1400 Canadian - because the C.C. company will first buy US Dollars, then Japanese YEN. What a rip, eh?

Absolute min you'd have to shell out in cash and assuming you walk-in into one of the wholesalers listed in kakaku is: Min Price x 1.05% (sales tax).

If you don't know how to find those tiny wholesalers, you can ask them to deliver to your doorstep or hotel room. Delivery fee is from JPY800. Cash handling fee (you'd have to pay cash to the delivery man in exchange of the merchandise) is another JPY1,000.

Note that 99.99% of the wholesalers listed in kakaku would only accept CASH.

If you pay in US Dollars from overseas, don't forget the money market wizardry of TTS and TTB. So if the Average rate of the Dollar is say 105 against the Yen, you should use 104 to convert from Yen to Dollar. Conversely, if I get something from the US, I would have to use 106 to convert Dollar to Yen.

If you're buying from overseas, intl express shipping cost + insurance would range from $60 to $75.

If you're coming to Japan, since there are no non-bank money changers in street, if you don't have a friend or relative to change your Dollar to Yen, your only choice is the bank. In that case, on top of the 1 Yen per Dollar that you're already losing bec of TTS/TTB, Jap banks normally charge an extra 2 to 3 Yen per Dollar for cash exchange.

If you don't want to pay in cash, go to the huge retailers and get the GS100 for over JPY120,000. Some of them will honor duty-free privileges of tourists and some have point-card system.
