the slower the shutter, the blurier the motion

at 25p, you could end up with a mash of images if theyre fast paced. mind u at this speed (1/25th) ull be gettin alot more light it... thing is u can always use the gain to offset the loss of light from using a faster shutter..

Does anyone know of any playback, audio and/or video, issues of tapes recorded in an XL-1 and played back in a DVX or issues with the same scenerio but in LP.

We just finished the importing and are now getting ready to post it on DVD.
If you go to the below site and to the right there is a button for a clip of the film just wanted to know what you guys think of the footage.

The movie is in Syrian there will be subtitles in two weeks.

It was shot with a two DVX100 as all camera setups were two cameras all lighting was KinoFlo budget for filming was 35,000 with 30,000 for showing around the USA and selected area around the world. I was one of the Line-Producers. Cinemaphotographer was JB he is well known in Chicago and is good with a DVX100.

Please let me know what you think as we are getting to go for release and we are looking for opions to the lighting and frame setups.

Is the DVX100a overall better than the DVC30 and worth the extra $1k
 

Im torn between a DVC30 for $1,899.00 or a DVX100a for $2,989.00. The cam will be used for snow sports and a short film or two. I dont need 24p, but the 30p of the DVX would be nice.

My question is, is it worth the extra $1000?

I can see what the colour bar is and I read somewhere that it shoudl be used as a marker (?) at the beginning of each tape (shoot?), but why? what is it for? does little old me going from DVX100 into computer need to know about this/use it? Thanks for your help.

hmm....

low light, variable cinegama, variable matrix, inbuilt xlrs, kick ass viewfinder, wider lense, true progressive... theyre the only difference i can think of right now...

i was lookin at a dvc30, but they didnt have any and coz i need it for a project, i had no choice but to upgrade to the dvx..

i like the dvc30, and for ur use, its perfect as it offers a longer zoom and is MUCH smaller (about the size of the DVX lens) and if u wanted to upgrade the audio u could get the XLR adapter...

hmm.. im still tryin to determine if my purchase was worth it.. see for me in the longrun havibg 2 dvx100 "looks" better for potential future work, as when im workin a wedding, people are impressed by the gear... i know it sounds shallow, but people are like that..

For editing and color correction purposes putting color bars on the begining of a tape will give the editor/corrector a standard to judge the camera's color by, or allow two cameras to be matched up more easily. The bar generator could also be used to calibrate the cameras EVF/LCD, or a monitor hooked up to the cam.

My DVC80 has 100 hours on the heads. It has never been factory serviced, and I've never had a problem with it, other than the battery meter not being very accurate -- but I've learned to live with that.

I think I ran the cleaning tape through it twice. Once when I received the "dirty head" warning icon and again when I changed brands of tape.

Is it time for a checkup? How much does that cost? When I sent in my PV-DV100 for repair, Panasonic in Elgin, IL charged me $249 + shipping. My DVC80 is still under warranty (purchased 12/2003).

couple of days ago, I came cross some really good site , those producers have really good movies made by DVX, and I think I got those address from here, but i couldn't find them anymore, can anyone put more good website like that ??

one that I love most is a web that have very simple design, just white background and some yellow dots, but it has the most beautiful music videos and short movies and commercials , if someone can tell me which one is it, I will be really appreciated !!

Plus, I do want to see more movies done by DVX before I buy one , :)

I was working on footage today on my AGDVX100 and when I went to batch capture the next set of scenes the screen stayed blue, the time showed that it was playing through footage but again it just stayed blue, we even tried another tape which we know had footage on it. So the camera itself isnt showing the image. It still works fine in record mode....what am I missing here. Please get back to me ASAP this if for the 48 hour project..!!!

do you have another camera that you can use for the time being to capture the footage. Any DV camera can be used. I havn't heard of a problem like that before, it might be something that needs to be serviced, so that would take longer than you have.

Focus Question.
 

focus question for my dvx100a: When i set the camera to manual focus mode then point it at an object, turn the focus dial till the object is completly out of focus, and the camera will slowly creep back into focus.

Is this Normal ?

What if I want an object to be blurry ?

Or a rack focus to something not in the middle of the frame ?

Sounds like you don't really have it in manual focus mode.

The focus ring works even when you're in autofocus mode -- you can adjust or move the focus ring, but when you stop, the camera will engage autofocus.

That sounds like what's happening here.

Be sure that the readout in the camera's display changes from AF00 to MF00 to know that you're definitely in manual focus mode. In manual mode the lens most definitely shouldn't change focus on its own.

Sync playback to the DVX100A
 

Can anyone recommend a consumer/prosumer or professional CD machine that can playback to the DVX100A in 24P mode and maintain lip sync?

I was messing around with my settings last night on my DVX100 and went under camera setup /syncro scan and changed it from what it was normally to some different number. What does this do, and do you guys know the default settings, sorry. I changed the syncro scan to = 1/181.0.

Don't worry, you only need to use that when you're trying to match the refresh rate of a TV screen or a monitor so that you don't get the banding that normally occurs. You haven't messed anything up.

I think the default setting is 1/48, but I'm not exactly sure (that's what mine is set at right now anyway, so don't quote me on that).

i just pulled out my new dvx100a and i noticed something different with this camera than on my gl2. when i power down i noticed that lcd takes 10-12 seconds to go pure black. when you power down it goes black but i can see some of the display info slowly dissapearing. on the gl2 the screen would go blank/black immmediately. is this normal with this camera? may i've gotten a lemon?

Shoulder Supported or Handheld Camera?
 

Ok here we go.

I need a quick poll to see if people prefer handheld or shoulder supported cameras for shooting video.

I am in the market for a new camera to retire my GL1 to be a second camera. I shoot event video.

I have only used smaller handheld MiniDV cameras ie. Cannon Gl1/2 and have never used a shoulder mount camera before.

Due to money constraints, I have narrowed my search down to either a Panasonic DVC30 or DVC60. These for me are the best bang for my buck. The DVC60 is essentially the same camera as DVC30 except for better microphone, longer lens barrel, and bult in XLR. The body on the DVC60 is carbon fiber so it only weighs 5.5 lbs.

Since I have never used a full size shoulder mount camera, would it be better if I stuck with handheld and utilize stableizer support like DVRige Pro for smoother handheld?

Or should I be ok with shoulder mount camera for extende useage?

Do you find it strenuous to shoot with a shouldermount?

Is it that easier to get steadier shots with shoulder supported camera.

It tells you the relative brightness of whatever you have the central square pointing at. So you can quickly pan around your subject and see what each element is registering at (0% = black, 100% = pure white). It's just another tool to help you gauge exposure.

What would be the focal lenght range of DVX when with telephoto adapter (comparing to 35 mm)?

Compared to 35mm still-cameras? Or 35mm movie cameras?

Mostly when you see video cameras compared to 35mm cameras, they're meaning a 35mm still camera. So by that terminology, the DVX with the Century 1.6x tele-extender lens is equivalent to about 520mm on a still camera.

On a movie camera, it's equivalent to about 300mm.

I use the DVRig Pro, and as long as you set it up right, you should be able to go all day without any fatigue. With a little practice you can pull off some real nice steady shots.

Whether you go handheld or with a shoulder mounted camera, it's gonna get heavier as the day goes on.

The DVRig solves that problem since the weight of the camera is resting on the support rod. I use it with my DVX100a and highly recommend it.

saw the trailer. Looks good, but I would change the audio mix. The sound of the breaking glass is way to hard. Also the slap in the face looks a bit amateur. YOu can see it is made with a semi-pro cam and you can see it in the mixing as well. I don't know how to change that, but I think you can do with better lighting set-ups and more power in characters (MORE acting)

shot sync sound for 35mm short with DVX - now what?
 

OK, I shot the sync sound of my 35mm short on a DVX100PAL.

The movie was shot at 24fps. The video progressive 25p. I plan to save the sound from the DVX as WAVE files. Do I need to do something with the frequency? Anything else I should take care of to match the sync perfectly?

meeting broadcast standards
 

Does anyone have any experience with using the DVX100/a for content that may be aired on TV and how difficult it is to meet the broadcast safe requirements?

I think broadcast standards are not uniform, each station can has its own standards, depends on the engineers etc.

As far as color correction and video signal are concerned, watch for white clipping - I believe there is an automated thing in FCP where you can see/check/repair this. Other software as well. Broadcast standars say you cannot have more than 100 IRE - however, (only) occasionally you can get away with a reflection, a spark etc in the image. Also watch for the black level.

Other than that, maybe someone else can say more about that? Again, there are no uniform standards, right?

You shouldn't have to do anything. The audio was recorded at 48,000 samples per second, not 25 frames per second. You should be able to import the DV footage into a PAL project, and export the audio as a .wav file, and then import the audio .wav files into your film 24p project directly.

I have a Vocas clip-on matte box that I have used extensively with my XL1. It is a two stage with one rotatable stage and has performed well on the Canon.

I may be interested in purchasing a DVX100A in the near future. Is the lens with the Panasonic sturdy enough to hold this type of matte box?
