DVX-100 Microphones

I have recently bought the new Panasonic DVX-100

I am surprised how weak the built-in microphone is. Has any one else noticed this?

In researching external mike options such as Sennheiser ME-66 and ME64. I am little worried about length (seeing mike in the picture). Is there much of a difference btween ME66 and 64 besides length? Also, I would like to know if there is a good quality shotgun & mount that does not need to be attached to the light shoe.

Thanks
