Re: Panasonic LUMIX FZ1000 announced with 4K recording

copy-that Ken
love using the grid on my trusty cx550v...whatever is in the centre rectangle is in focus...period
I'm getting variable results with this new-fangled tracking focus/subject focus. When there is no time whatsoever except for pointing and shooting, I'd like the subject matter which will be in the centre of the image to be in-focus and the likelehood of that happening diminishes as sensor readout size increases. Therefore for video purposes smaller can be better. 4K is so precise and so demanding of image quality that any optically induced softness will be painfully apparent
I don't know if that is the reason the engineers of the fz1000 chose to use the high crop factor 2.7 (or something like that) when shooting 4K mode or if it is some technical reason beyond my scope of understanding these things (would not need to be to esoteric to be out of my scope lol)

Re: Panasonic LUMIX FZ1000 announced with 4K recording

Hi everyone, so far i am keen on this new FZ1000 to replace my SDT750, but it will not be here in Australia for quite some time, and i think it is going to be at least $1200 or more based on current trends where we Australians are being ripped off with all our electronics gear compared to the rest of the world, so i may end up ordering one from USA if i eventually decide to grab one.

Another reason for going with one from USA is because i shoot all my current video in 1080/50p avchd and the FZ1000 only shoots 4k at 25fps, so getting the US version i can at least get that up to 30fps (not that it will make much difference)

Anyway, i found a hands on review and the guy in the review pointed out the rather noisy lens when he was shooting video and zooming the lens in and out.

Does anyone here know if this is indeed correct, and has the RX10 got the same problem.

the reference to the noisy lens is in this video link is at the 3.20 mark.

Cheers

You live in pal country so you should get a pal capable camera, you might run into issues with flickering lights when shooting indoor if you use a 30p camera only.
The zoom of the rx10 can be heared while zooming but it's fairly silent, the zoomspeed during record however is ridiculously slow, takes about 13 seconds to go from wide to tele.

In the video TCSTV's Chris Niccolls refers to the camera as the "F zed 1000". Makes it easier to understand. Where did this trend come from to state the letter "Z" as "Zed"? First person I heard do it was Alister Chapman.

But the letter "Z" is pronounced "Zed", at least here in Australia that's how we say it.

W = Double U
X = Ex
Y = Why
Z = Zed

I believe some pronounce it as "Zee" but to me that doesn't sound right.

Re: Panasonic LUMIX FZ1000 announced with 4K recording

It's our North American cousins that miss-pronounce Z as Zee. The rest of the world is Zed. ;-)

It is easily proven that it is North America that has it wrong. A zeppelin is obviously a zeppelin, not a zee-ppelin, a zipper is a zipper, not a zee-pper. In most of the world a zebra is a zeb-ra, except the USA where it gets turned into a zee-bra. ;-)

Canada is such a huge place geographically that there are quite a few accents and even completely different languages, btw thats a cool way to pronounce Zillin and I have to squint real hard to make out whats being said. You waiting on a fz1000?
