As far as eBay, I bought a lot of my gear from there and not once had a problem. You just have to use common sense. If someone that has a history of selling hand made pot holders is suddenly selling high end electronics... that should put the red flags up.

I think there is a subtle but kind stab there, but I also don't understand.

Since this an item for sale thread I'll leave it alone after this. Ash very obviously states the headline getting situations that still plague the auction sites. We're quite aware of this malaise. My point is more toward the well meaning folks who don't realize the condition of their item which often results in higher than usual valuations for used gear.
