WTB: Cheap consumer camera for monitor output

This is a shot in the dark, but I figure it’s better to try here than buying cheap on eBay; they odds are wouldn’t understand what I intend to use it for. (or it would be stolen)

Does anyone have a small handheld camera that would work for premier output on an external monitor; I just need it for Firewire-->S-Video and RCA Audio

I’m looking for something used, abused, possibly unable to record, broken lenses, LCD Screen, or unable play back tapes and thusly Cheap.

I just dont want to put any more hours on my XL1s than I have to.

Jeremy Davidson April 4th, 2005 12:22 PM

I'd expect that most any little miniDV or Digital8 camcorder would do the trick. You may want to look at one with a working tape transport, though. You could then use it as a deck and offload even more hours from your XL1 (granted that you are using tapes and not going direct-to-disk).

'Just recently picked up a couple of Sony TRV120's (Digital8) on eBay for about $200-250 each. Once you get to this price range, however, you may be able to get one of those Canopus converter boxes instead.

Josh Hibbard April 4th, 2005 01:41 PM

Hey, I never looked into that before; I thought canopus only offered that in their expensive cards.

After some searching I found this, pretty neat: http://www.academicsuperstore.com/q/PartNo-qk_srch/f/market-marketdisp/v/708540-ADVC-55+A%2FD+Converter/ADVC-55+A%2FD+Converter/ADVC-55.html?sourcecode=s10142&promocode=pc11413

I recind my request for a cheap camera to pass through

Thanks Jeremy

Hugh,

I'll be the first to ask if you're willing to break up the package. (Lots of people, like me, are interested in some of it.) I'm intrested in the Mattbox, and maybe some of the Batts.

Hugh DiMauro April 4th, 2005 03:52 PM

The Matte Box was put up for sale separately anyway! Sure I'll sell it separately.

Porta Brace RS-GL2 MINT...used once

Bought a Kata cover. Just didn't care for that one. Sold my biz due to family illness. Have a GL2 raincover (very well designed) that was put on the camera once to check fit, etc. Then took it off and shortly after had to move, sell gear. Just unearthed this (finally) out of the box where it was 'lost'. $120 includes shipping. If interested please email "fatcatmedia@yahoo.com" Thanks & God Bless! Roze

It's the one top left. Click the "min-dv details" link for great info, sketches and photos of this rain cover.

Beachteck XLR

Beachteck XLR Which model and how much... thanks

Hugh DiMauro April 5th, 2005 11:48 AM

It's the one specifically for the XL1s (I have the unit at home. I am at work so I cannot see the exact name on the box). I took it out of the box once to make sure it was there! Never used it because a friend fabricated for me a home made 30 foot shielded extension cable for my Canon stock mic that came with the cam.

Joel Guy April 5th, 2005 02:15 PM

Josh,

I did a search for that adaptor, and couldn't find the one you are talking about.

The one I need fits on the Canon 14x manual lens; it has a 75mm clamp that fits around the lens.

You can find it here:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=140157&is=REG

Josh Hibbard April 5th, 2005 04:18 PM

Nope, no clamp on mount, It just screws on the front of the lense, I can put it on the Canon 3x no problem.

Oh well, nevermind.

Dave Frank April 5th, 2005 05:23 PM

Hari,

Shot you an email tonight.

John Sandel April 5th, 2005 05:35 PM

Joel, for what it's worth, I had the 7x version of the adapter Josh offered & had Century convert it to the 75mm clamp-on mount, for use on Canon's 14x zoom, for about $100. I mentioned it here.

If you won't buy new & are unable to find a used clamp-on model, you could pick up the screw-on type & have the same conversion done ...

Obviously, the used screw-on adapter price would have to be pretty low (as it was for me) to make it worth your while.
