Re: Canon Extension Tubes & Canon Prime Lenses
I'm not very familiar with extension tubes for canon...
These appear to be the version "II" tubes that are EF-S compatible, can you confirm? They are stackable? What sort of magnifications do you get with them? Were you using them with full-frame or crop sensor? Was there a particular lens you liked or didn't like with them? Thanks! |

Re: Canon Extension Tubes & Canon Prime Lenses
Hi, Seth.
Yes these are the version II compatible with EF-S lenses. Here's info from the "overview" on B&H: ====================================================================== This updated version II is now also fully compatible with Canon Digital EF-S lenses, as well as standard photo EF and TS-E lenses. Extension Tube EF 25 II is recommended for lenses with a focal length of 50mm and up (EF-S 18-55mm can be used at middle and tele zoom settings). Shortens focusing distance of lens Compatible with EF-S lenses, as well as EF and TS-E lenses White-index mark provided for digital SLR EF-S lenses Red mark provided for photo lenses ========================================================== They are "stackable" although I've never used them this way. I have had one or the other on between the body and 18-55mm "kit" lens with middle and tele zoom settings. Best results will likely be with prime lenses, for most of the things I've done I wound up using the EF 50mm f1.8 at f5.6 to f11. Wide angle lenses (usually with the 12mm tube will give more magnification but may cause you to focus close to the objective lens. Focusing is a lot easier if you go manual and frequently press the DOF Prevue button to see the zone of focus, the brightness wide open helps but the DOF Prevue confirms you have what you want. The more light, the better. I had no trouble. I used them mainly on APS-C "crop" sensor bodies, T2i, 60D. Last use was on a 60D using the 25mm tube and my EF 50mm on a copy stand for photographing and digitizing 35mm color slides a few months ago. I used these images to give a presentation to our local photography club on this as a method to copy color slides. I've never tried to "measure" magnification. Mainly concerned with getting "close enough". I hope this helps answer your questions. You might check user reviews on B&H. |
