Re: Ring shot ideas

I love that the Joe Simon video is of Tom Werner('s daughter).

Yes, just any old video from Joe Simon -- and it happens to be the wedding video of the Boston Red Sox co-owner's daughter.

Re: FCP7 settings for XF300

As an XF300 user, I totally agree with the "Natives" here. I use native import (log and transfer) exclusively for XF300-only timelines. When I combine the XF300 with the C100, then, alas, I do...

Re: c100 displaying inaccurate colors

I've never had any inaccurate colors in actual recording. But the display screen is about 500K too "cool".

Gorgeous piece of music, by the way.
Gotta love Rameau.

Re: USB, DVD, BD or all three - Pricing?

BluRay and DVD mainly. (And hosted highlights.)

Lots of blu-ray requests in my turf.

Re: Please review my first wedding film!

Thanks for posting, Mitch. You've come to the right place as the lessons here are invaluable. You're well on your way for a first video.

General suggestion about the coloring: I'd edge it a...

Re: Hopefully, a productive thread to gain more business

Ok... so, even if it's 10% -- that's a LOT of weddings in any market that are being filmed. So the question is not what percentage of the weddings get filmed, it's what percentage of the filmed...

Re: Canon C100 Shutter Speed 30?

I am also a 30p 1/60 guy, but I won't hesitate to turn down the speed to 1/30 in really dark settings where there's no fast movement.

I was at a really dark wedding (at night in the rain with...

Re: Anyone doing a "no disks" delivery yet?

I heard about this recently, too, endorsed by Meg Simone. Would love to hear what people think.

Re: Images for DVD Covers

Most couples I'm finding are getting their photos in digital hi-res (along with albums) from their photographers. So I just always put it in the hands of the couples. If they are able and inclined...

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

I have found that, as long as there are enough quality spoken words from the day (toasts, for example), AND/OR an interview session with the bride and groom, that this kind of narrative/storytelling...

Re: Can we talk about the color grading trends for those shooting with the Canon C100

Very helpful, Michael, to have another's perspective on this. Thank you.

We certainly all work within trends to some degree (or at least most of us do). I try to beware of getting too caught up...

Re: Can we talk about the color grading trends for those shooting with the Canon C100

Hey Michael & all,

I'm a happy C100 owner and also am sensitive to the same thing you point out. (Although the dynamic range is wonderful to shoot with, I think the trend has gone a bit too far...

Re: Blu-ray Premium Surface

I hear you, Adrian, agreed.

Most of my wedding clients actually *do* ask for blu-ray -- and I give *every* wedding client a blu-ray regardless (with DVD as backup for those few in our area who...

Re: Blu-ray Premium Surface

Hmmmm.... Parallels H-Sphere Account has been suspended (http://www.falcon-media.net) 's website seems to be suspended.
Not a great sign for continued availability, perhaps?

Re: Changing from C100 to A7s?

It sounds like size is the biggest issue for you. I don't know the A7s, I confess, but experience and good comparison videos have shown how the C100 outperforms the 5D3 in terms of dynamic range and...

Re: Booking Date conundrum...

Ditto. I put "payment must be received within three (3) days of contract date".

Then, in practice, when it's been more than three days, if someone else calls up, I give the original couple one...

Re: Length of long version

All on one disc -- but the Highlights play first (if you go to "Play Film" on main menu). If you go to the chapters, you can see the running footage chapters, too. So they can choose.

As things...

Re: Length of long version

Cool, Chris.

For my "running footage" (the long part, but the short part to edit), I *basically* do what you do but in a different way. I *do* have it all on one timeline, but set chapter marks...

Re: Wedding Trailers

I started mixing in the term "short form" (which is basically highlights in my lingo) to mean something that is less chronological and linear, perhaps, than just a straight highlights. The two could...

Re: Wedding Trailers

Yes! At least in my case, that's right. About 15 minutes is what my "highlights" comes out to. A preview or trailer is usually a short song or part of a song (2-3 minutes).

Chris: to answer...

Re: Length of long version

I remember saying this in another post, but here goes:

For me, the 90 minute version is an easy include (since I have to edit through it anyway, to create the trailer and highlights). Why not...

Re: Length of long version

3 minute trailer (serves as intro to the film, eventually, too)
15 minute highlights
90 or so minutes of "running footage", chapterized, which they can watch as desired.
