dustin, I too have recently had terrible results with pana amq tapes, 36 tapes used and only one tape with no drop outs.
I was begining to think it was my cameras.
ive now switched to sony tapes...

heres a vote for sony vegas 8 and cineform..great for audio as well as it integrates with soundforge. running on an intel quad core with vista 64...hopefully soon to be vegas 64 bit.

the instant auto focus button does work ok, better in 50i than 25p but tbh if you have to rely on that rather than your sight, something is wrong and its slower.
you can up the sharpness of the lcd ...

Well I've just finished filming series of 6 shows with 2 xh-a1s and i used mixture of pana
AY-DVM83SQ and AY-DVM63AMQ and I must say results were very poor, with at least one drop out on each tape....

Dvd architect 5 (sonys own new blue ray software) doesnt support 25p!( not according to the preferences) yet its own cameras all film in 25p this if correct would make filming in 25p less attractive....

Well they didnt manage to make custom dvds this is what they did..
They filmed with mini dv camera direct to a set top TV DVD ...
