Re: What kind of a world do we live in?

Sadly, there has developed a mindset in the internet age that creative work "should" be free, since much of it can be stolen one way or another. The Entitled generation is all but indignant that...

Re: "Hell Baby", comedy/horror feature

Release will be along the "Bachelorette" model, with VOD on July 25th and theatrical on Sept. 6th. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

re: My First Lighting Class; or How I Learned to Light

Gary, see my post above.

Rob, there is definitely a place still for hot lights, until LED's and other new technologies completely replace the tungsten units we are used to at a reasonable cost. I...

Re: The end of Panavision?

I recommend anyone who is truly interested in camera technology and history to make a stop by the Panavision facility in Woodland Hills and ask for a tour. While the facility has scaled down a bit...

Re: Daylight shooting in the woods

I still maintain that white materials are going to be your best bet for "erasing" the green tint. Even if there is no direct sun to bounce a noticeable fill onto the subject, remember that the ground...

Re: Daylight shooting in the woods

I'm not entirely sure I understand what I'm seeing there Bob--did you attempt to minimize contrast on the girl's side of coverage by lifting the footage? If so that explains the lack of saturation.

Re: Daylight shooting in the woods

It shouldn't be too much of a problem in wide shots. For closeups, you can position white bounces around the subject. White is much more reflective than green, so it should erase the color cast...

re: My First Lighting Class; or How I Learned to Light

Vincent and I worked together on a few combined video/still jobs in the heyday of the DSLR era (whenever that was--2010 I guess). I'd light the video aspect and then he lit the still components, with...

Re: 2.35:1 (1920x817) Anamorphic Scope Aspect Ratio

I shot an HD feature 9 years ago that was cropped to 2:39 and scanned to 35mm for theatrical release. It "survived" but I wouldn't say that it thrived. There is substantially more resolution involved...

Re: Relaying Light: Using Diffusion to “Fix” Natural Light by Art Adams

We shot the car scene yesterday, although it moved from day exterior to warehouse interior (standing in for a parking garage). And I managed to forget to take any pictures! But I can at least...

Re: Relaying Light: Using Diffusion to “Fix” Natural Light by Art Adams

Ha, thanks Craig on the 2x2 swatches, I forgot about that book. After wrestling a little with those (fine for round sunshades, not great with matteboxes and wide lenses) I had one of my gaffers make...

Re: Relaying Light: Using Diffusion to “Fix” Natural Light by Art Adams

In this day and age where sophisticated color correction is available to all (I still can't wrap my head around the free version of Davinci Resolve--talk about a gift), the subtlety of in-camera...

Re: Relaying Light: Using Diffusion to “Fix” Natural Light by Art Adams

Hi John:

You shouldn't hesitate to ask questions, that's what the board is for!

Duplicating the look of daylight requires one to conform to the directionality and quality of existing light....

Re: Relaying Light: Using Diffusion to “Fix” Natural Light by Art Adams

Again, it was Art's shoot, it clearly went well and he got a good result, so I don't want to disparage his approach and I certainly acknowledge that the core concept of the article, redirecting...

Re: Ghost Ghirls trailer on Yahoo! Screen

Somewhere between 10-12 episodes.

Only two are currently complete and color corrected so the footage in the trailer varies widely from finished to all but raw, but that's a promo for you, neither...

Re: Relaying Light: Using Diffusion to “Fix” Natural Light by Art Adams

Good for many people to think about diffusion as a way of changing the direction of light.

I will say that watching the spot before reading the article, I could guess that a double net was in use...

It's a sticky wicket using the Canon C series cameras as a benchamrk example of what a "professional" camera should be. They themselves have an odd form factor that does not lend itself well...

Not quite sure I understand the distinction you are making, but it's cool, the future will bring what it brings.
