Re: Selfie-sticks banned at local museums....

In the museum, if its crowded, the selfie stick gets you a view from above the crowd (see: Mona Lisa at the Louvre). If its not crowded, its probably semi-narcissists taking pictures of themselves...

Re: Canon promotional video highlighting new features of the C100mkII

Not very helpful for weddings. Too many faces in the frame, most of the time.

Thank you for the info!

Re: Canon promotional video highlighting new features of the C100mkII

Any indication on whether it uses the touch screen for the focusing, like the 70D?

Re: Leave the aisle free?

As much as I like a balcony shot for the splendor of when everyone stands for the bride, for the entire ceremony, I'm not a fan at all. It always feels too distant and removed to me. Of course, if...

Re: Leave the aisle free?

I let the photog know that, as long as its only for a moment or two, its fine if they block my aisle cam. Unless they've proven themselves less than reasonable earlier in the day :)

Aisle camera...

Re: How many jobs per year?

One good rule of thumb is to keep your expenses below 30% of your gross income.

To figure out your number of jobs to cover expenses, we have to consider two different kinds of expenses.

You...

Re: Canon 5Ds

Pixels, pixels, whose got the pixels?

At this point, I'd like more dynamic range from Canon. I love a good auto-focus (we have the 70D), and would adore better low light performance (we have the...

Re: Canon's 70D and its 30 minute video recording limit

Alpha status for magic lantern on the 70D.

F'/4 is because of crop factor. That 28mm f/2.8 pancake lens ends up acting like a 35mm f/4, though the STM is really nice. I'll be doing some testing...

Re: Canon's 70D and its 30 minute video recording limit

The Magic Lantern on it is in progress, but very early on.

On the dance floor? Its OK. I bought the 40mm and 28mm f2.8 pancake STM lenses, and s that's roughly f/4 equivalent, and the 70D really...

Re: Listing prices on website

Make it simple, whatever you do. The last thing you need to do is offer to many options and cause the "paralysis of choice" and they just move on.

2 or 3 choices at the initial point, that's it. ...

Re: Credits anyone?

Over here we have plenty of time during the pre-ceremony. Most couples do some or all of the formal pictures before, and one of us can shoot details and the other does interviews or credits shots.

Re: Credits anyone?

I may start doing one but it would be a simple standing interview style shot, off center, so I can put their name next to their head shot.

Easy enough to film as long as you do your stand ups the...

Re: Listing prices on website

One frame of mind is that IF you compete based on price, you need to list it. Otherwise, don't worry.

However, a lot of the reading I've done suggests that a legitimate strategy is to present...

Re: Discount?

I offer package discounts, as in, if they book both DJ and Videography, we usually do the photobooth or up lighting for free.

Otherwise, I will offer different options if they calling with short...

Re: Drones

There is a quad copter due out on September that has shot selection built in to their app, so you tap 'dolly out' and it does.

We were going to wait, but saw a sale yesterday for 3DRobotics' newer...

Re: Drones

The most effective use I've seen so far is establishing shots.

Here is Joe Simon in Boston - relevant to know the bride is a Red Sox owner's daughter or some such.

Amanda & Stephen's Wedding...

Re: A turning point in video/photo packages?

we've talked about this before, but often the best shots, the best cinematography, has an effect on the viewer that they're not even conscious of.

A tight shot of the bride's face over the...

Re: How do you get all the wedding information?

I get a copy of the bride's schedule, which will show getting ready times for sure, and then a church program covers ceremony details, and will simply talk to them on the phone or in person for the...

Great for you.

I suspect those newly offering highlight only video will learn quickly that, even though that's what everyone sees online, it is only part of what most clients want. I learned that...

Re: Awesome video showing C100mkII tracking AF, Face Detection, Slow Mo

yes, but its terrible. I have only used relatively cheap lenses but they are very noisy and not smooth at all. I've gotten some bad lens vibration, too.

Here are a few bad examples. The only...

Re: Awesome video showing C100mkII tracking AF, Face Detection, Slow Mo

Noa, I know with the 70D's autofocus, its touchscreen, so I keep my finger on the spot during non repeatable moments. The processional in particular, with so many faces on screen at once.

Re: Awesome video showing C100mkII tracking AF, Face Detection, Slow Mo

its why we own two 70Ds, that face tracking auto focus, I'd love to have 2 or 3 of these.

Re: Audio from the first dance

Often, how much of the song appears, how cleanly, and what the camera is pointed at. If you're shooting a bunch of random stuff and its noisy and music happens to be playing, no (few) worries.

If...
