Re: Taken the Plunge

I too started with Dougs file but did some testing and tweaked it a bit. I used some of the numbers from Alan Roberts BBC report and then started using my eye to come up with a couple of CPs that...

Re: Taken the Plunge

That's what I was referring to. With a large amount of clips it becomes a bit cumbersome though what I do is tell the Mac OS to search within the content folder for .mxf files and the results I can...

Re: mic for vo

If you can't swing the Neumann, my second choice would be the 214.
Reason is the 414 is meant to be an all purpose mic. It has dual capsules and multiple polar patterns which is useful when...

Re: mic for vo

Ha! Another vote for the 414...mine is the TLII variety.

On a budget, the AT2020 is what I have set many VO talents up with.
When the VOs have the budget, the Neumann TLM103 is becoming a...

Re: Aliasing only when screen size is small?

FCP... just have to learn how to use it. Correct that manually dragging a corner to resize the viewer window will yield a horrible image. Better to stick to the 100, 50, 25% presets which look fine....

Re: Heliopan 77mm vari LENS CAP??

Don't the spring type covers rely on the threads being on the inside of the filter? If yours work a different way, how can we get some? I have the same issue with my Singh Ray. Theres no internal...

Re: How would you film, and do this in After Effects?

Well, I think doing the plate (for TL part) would be easiest if the car was driven extremely slow with the driver out of sight or towed very slowly. Then when played back at a normal driving speed...

Re: Taken the Plunge

Congrats! Love my 300 and can't say enough about the pictures the thing makes. Would recommend collecting some of the CP files that have been posted and try them out. I'm blending parts from a few...

Re: ReplayXD ProLens 37MM Adapter Lens Kit?

There's quite a few accessories that I have discussed with them that are supposed to be coming. Lenses would be cool...I'm waiting for a version of the back cap that an hdmi cable could pass through...

Re: Genus or Heliopan variable ND filter?

I got mine on sale for $390...UGH!!! When I bought it, the Heliopan and Genus weren't available. It's paid for itself many time over though so I can't complain too much!

Look forward to hearing...

Re: Chicken Steadicam

Ahh..didn't fully explain...
I was looking at the possibility of a fully autonomous steadicam. No need to hold. That way I can operate a second camera. :)

So do you think an ostrich would be able to handle my 7D?

Re: Do we really need this stuff?

I have mixed feelings on this subject since on one hand, I cut my teeth in the old analog recording industry. I was an "audio engineer" which meant I aligned the tape machine, wired all the gear...

Re: Genus or Heliopan variable ND filter?

I own the Singh Ray thin VND and there's no stops or marks. I can see why some people might want marks (repeatable settings) but I'd rather use meters to set exposure. I could use grease pencil to...

Re: CN-600 LED lights - anyone using these?

My friend has a pair of these and I have a pair of Cool lights that are similar. I like them both but the CoolLights seem better built with better cases.
I use Rosco's Cinegel * #3026: Tough White...

Re: Lens use for glidecam/merlin?

Canon 28mm 1.8 or Tokina 11-16 on my 7D. Want the rig as light as possible.
My buddy uses the Canon 16-35 on his 5D and it's awesome. He's using a Pilot so the weight isn't an issue at all.

Re: "Shakyness" with the 50mm 1.8 (7D)

Looks more like shutter speed issue. If you're not at double the frame rate (ie 24fps = shutter speed approx 48 or 30fps = 60) it can induce strobing.

Since it's virtually outdoor lighting, you...

Re: Different mixers producing different outputs?

Yeah, weak batteries could cause issues too. I'm a nut about batteries and change them out in any gear I'm using on a shoot. Rather have a pile of slightly used AA for my kids toys than risk a shoot....

Re: XF305 with stabliser - handheld

I have to agree with Mark on this.

I own a 300 and GlideCam 4000hd with vest and arm. My buddy owns a Pilot and has flown my camera as well as several others and has a LOT more experience than I...

Re: Different mixers producing different outputs?

Hmmm...and did you increase the mic gain on the Azden or did you leave it at noon? If you turn just the mic gain up with the other things the same it should be working. Some of my pre's require me to...

Re: Different mixers producing different outputs?

Well, let's do a bit of troubleshooting. I'm assuming you are feeding phantom power to the mic. With the gain switch set at -30 And your mic plugged into channel one, bring the inner knob of channel...

Re: Different mixers producing different outputs?

I don't think he meant that he wanted to use the mic from 25 ft away...just that he could hear stuff the inexpensive gear wouldn't reveal. And actually that goes back to the noise floor. Yes you can...

Re: Should I get a mixer with zoom h4n?

I use the NTG-3 indoors quite often and it's fine. The NTG-2 is very similar. Sounds like you need to experiment with mic placement techniques. :)

Re: Should I get a mixer with zoom h4n?

Yup! The H4n and others are popular for a reason. They are inexpensive solutions for getting decent audio.

Re: Different mixers producing different outputs?

There's some who are fans of Azden but I am not one of them. I consider them to be rather poor in the audio quality department. Ive used a few of their products and they all seem noisy. For the ...
