Re: Have you moved your business?
I am in the same boat. I have less than three years to get ready. Along with a webiste, vendor contacts and referrals are a life blood so I'm considering taking a few bookings where we want to move...

Re: Ring shot ideas
It's always nice to have a couple of basic ideas (for any situation) in your bag of tricks.
Don't forget there are two kinds of motion: move the camera, via slider or tripod; or movement in the...

Re: Titles to break up a wedding film
Chris,
you can give their brain a break just as easily by changing mood, intensity, and composition.
A while back I posted a video break down by Every Frame a Painting about Michael Bay. He...

Re: Anyone using 5D3 and Magic Lantern?
There is some talk about the newest Canon firmware blocking ML, so guys were downgrading the firmware.
I have a 5d Mark ii, but am tempted to get a iii just for the RAW and 14 steps of dynamic...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony
I know some of them were super cheap kit lenses, like the USM versions of the 18-55mm and 55-250mm we got with our T3is (our first cameras). The 18-135 USM was also a problem.
I'll have to do...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony
Michael, you should qualify that statement to say that the quality, expensive USM lenses can work well with auto focus, because we tried our cheaper lenses, not great stuff, and got a LOT of jerky...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony
Does the 24-105 give you smooth focusing? We haven't had a chance to test many lenses, but the STM were always by far the best choice for the 70D. Everything else had focusing noise and was jerky. ...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony
Paul, is the price difference still true for a gently used 70D? That is what I was suggesting. Better to figure out a way to get the more useful camera now rather than buy the 600D and then replace...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony
Paul, I hadn't considered how the f/4 is really closer to f/5.6 on a crop factor. Then you've got the issue with the ISO on the 600D not being able to push as far as a lot of other cameras. Its...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony
Fine, I guess, though the 600D is worse in every measurable except maybe the swivel screen being convenient compared to a 5d Mark ii.
The 24mm will still be 40mm equivalent on the crop factor,...

Re: DSLR for weddings
What do you want it to do?
We use both the Canon 70D and 5d Mark ii for very different reasons. The 70D has very nice focus tracking, so when the bride is walking down the aisle, I tap her face...

Re: Options for filming processional
One great thing about most of the churches we work here in the U.S. is lots of space, and those side aisles.
I'm partial to putting a camera in back, just off to the side usually, pre-focused on...

Re: Camera Choices for Weddings
Sort of. The 70D will film 30 minutes continuous and automatically break the files into 4GB size. We also use the 5d Mark ii with Magic Lantern installed, which, along with other benefits, gives us...

Re: Camera Choices for Weddings
For Canon: for run and gun, I really like our 70Ds. The live facial tracking is pretty good, as long as you have the STM lenses. In low light, we use the 5D Mark ii. A pair of gently used Mark iis...

Yes, James, Gaffer's tape.

I'm going to try and find a small enough recorder that it makes sense to possibly attach it to the bottom, like when they convert a corded mic into a wireless.
Otherwise, yes, gaffers tape is...

Re: When to start upgrading cameras?
I wouldn't necessarily get all one camera. As a multi-shooter, I wish we had stuck with two 70Ds for the autofocus and reach, and two 5d Mark ii's for the full frame and low light ability.
If I...
