Re: Question about selling my raw footage

Do you have a contract for them already to review?

If so look to see if they are asking for exclusive rights to the material. That would prohibit you from using the footage in any way in the...

Re: Subcontracted video rights

If someone brings you a job it is impolite to put your brand on it unless that was part of the agreement up front. You may be burning a bridge if you do that.

Additionally I would strongly...

Re: Should I let 4K be a deciding factor?

50mb XDCam is a recognized format for broadcast. It may work better than ProRes will depending on what your clients can handle. Quality wise it will hold up very well with ProRes 145mb.

4k...

Re: Should I let 4K be a deciding factor?

4k shouldn't be a deciding factor if you are shooting for broadcast.

For cinema there is a stronger case but still not one where I would make 4k a must-have for a camera purchase.

What would...

Re: Sony White Balance

It sounds like a hoop but its actually not so bad. You can dial the WB setting very easily. It takes a couple more steps than having a direct button to dial WB but it is still a job done in seconds.

Re: Help Getting Video Preview to play smoothly?

Since you have Win7 you should open up resource monitor. From there you'll be able to better see where the bottleneck is.

A quick overview of it here - How to Use the Resource Monitor in Windows...

Re: Help Getting Video Preview to play smoothly?

I'm curious why you would say they aren't a good choice for large media files.

I'm using Samsung 840PRO SSDs in place of a RAID0 setup on my Avid system now. Using multiple streams of 220mb DNxHD...

Re: Selling CH67 Sony kit abroad?

CH38 wouldn't be practical. Radios don't generally allow for a frequency shift of that magnitude (850mhz to 600mhz) without a lot of changes that wouldn't be cost effective.

Re: Lowbudget solution for voiceovers/podcasting

It is plenty good enough for a podcast.

I don't use the version of pro-tools that comes with the mic. I use Audacity due to its light footprint and its more modest hardware requirements. It works...

Re: Lowbudget solution for voiceovers/podcasting

I've been using one of these now for a couple of years. It sounds better than I expected for the $$. Since it is also a USB mic you don't have to worry about noisy laptops.

M-Audio Pro Tools...

Re: Best manufactured magic arm?

I use those to mount cameras and gear on vehicles.

I can confirm that once they are locked down they don't slip.

Re: Understanding LUTs and RAW

The way to think about it is a LUT is a short-cut to get RAW or LOG footage looking within our normal expected range for luminance and color. It is a temporary color correction to use during your...

Re: Latest Sound Devices Mixer/Recorder

B&H lists the kit for $3,900 and the bare box for $3,100.

That is going to be popular.

Look in the slot of the recorder and make sure one of the pins isn't bent.

I still suspect it is from non continuous lighting. Funny things can happen...

Re: light color temperature question

What you are describing is from a non continuous light source.

Did you by chance change your shutter speed between shots?

Re: Softbox and honeycomb for litepanel 1x1?

You can use things for spill control but they will have to be much deeper than what you use for your normal light fixtures for the reason mentioned by Bill.
