Early leak: FAA will require a pilot's license for drone flying

Along with an actual pilot's license, it would be restricted to daylight hours, under 400 feet, and within line of site. This would include all unmanned craft under 55lbs.

Report: FAA Will...

Re: Wedding at The Legendary Breakers Hotel - w/ DJI Footage

I don't have any notes about your shooting. Mine are all about the edit.

I had a hard time understanding what everyone was saying because of the singing/the song.

The time shifting was a bit...

Re: upselling vs downgrading

Ah, I'd forgotten about the 'ceremony only,' though I only offer that on short notice, or if I'm their DJ. True enough on the rest, though.

Re: upselling vs downgrading

The studies show two or three choices both work. If you already have 3 packages, the easiest way to raise your prices is to drop your cheapest option entirely, or replace it with a new, most...

Re: One point of failure vs many?

Correct, though there is always the regression to the mean. If you flip you start flipping your coin, maybe you start with 8 'heads' in a row, which is statistically unlikely, but possible. The...

Re: My first wedding

A nice first effort, and it depends on what kind of wedding videos you want to make, what changes and improvements you'll have to work on.

More audio from throughout the day is a big one for me....

Re: DJI Inspire 1 - 4K Quadcopter

Mike, isn't this the quadcopter that they specifically say the camera is swappable, so that its upgradable?

I think the criticisms are spot on, though that is one thing they did right.

Re: One point of failure vs many?

Adrian, the correct probability is always the same. If a card fails one out of 1000 times, that will stay true.

Then, the chance that two of your cards will fail at the same time is 1/1000X1000,...

Re: NTSB rules against Pirker

In a different article, it stated simply that the FAA can regulate their flight, so stay below 400 feet, and don't endanger people or property.

Pirker's attorney(s) are quoted as saying, "The more...

Re: Beach Wedding - Mic off Groom

I haven't had it howling, though it was very brisk, to put it politely.

I used a pocket recorder on the groom, who, instead of a suit, wore a button up linen shirt, no tie. *sigh* His collar...

Re: How long before 1080p DSLR's (5D,7D,T#i,60D) are considered obsolete?

Dave, The comparison for 4K to 3D was only for the TVs, and maybe "Smart" TVs is a better fit. Its not that no one buys them, its that the benefit isn't big enough for everyone to buy one while...

Re: How long before 1080p DSLR's (5D,7D,T#i,60D) are considered obsolete?

The rate at which new technology gets adapted will accelerate...IF people adopt it at all. Here, I'm not entirely sure about 4K TVs, after all, they've already given up on 3D.

That is different...

Re: Lighting the Reception

Oren, personally I haven't used our lights yet, but am ready if I run into a bad situation. My arrangement would be designed to softly light a space, like the dance floor, enough that I'm not...

Re: Lighting the Reception

We don't use it, but off camera light to fill the space, like the dance floor, is my preferred way. We've got two wide, dimmable lights with stands, and then two narrow lights, also on stands or...

Re: Gopro4 black and a Feiyu g3

The big question, then: for someone buying a GoPro soon, is the 4 worth it, at $500? Looks like the 3+ Black is still $350 so its only $150 difference for 4K and better low light, right?

Re: Sigma 18-35 F1.8 -Absolute Magic!

Doesn't it? To achieve all the same results between the two cameras (amount of light, DOF) you can't leave the aperture the same.

Re: Sigma 18-35 F1.8 -Absolute Magic!

Except that, because a crop factor has a smaller sensor, and thus reads less light, if you wanted the same exposure settings, the same brightness to your image, you'd still have to factor the crop...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony

Michael,

we get micro-vibrations from 1) touching the camera, 2) walking near a camera with certain floors, and 3) using the auto-focus and non-STM lenses.

For instance, I have two different...

Can anyone tell me if the waypoint auto-flying will also allow you to assign camera changes in advance?

For instance, I'd love to be able to pre-assign a route like the show-off video where the...

Re: Couple of questions about mileage/time

You'll have to decide what is right for you. Similar to Mike, except my problem is rural: the only two towns of any size are 30 and 90 miles away. If I want to work often, I have to consider if...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony

The facial tracking is the best! Especially for the processional and recessional. I usually have an STM lens (smooth on the focus) at around 28 or 40mm and, from up front, track everyone as they...

Re: Canon 70-200mm F/4 vs. F/2.8 for Ceremony

For anytime you NEED to have any depth of field, I'd target f/5.6 or higher. I have gone down to f/4 in a pinch, but then have to pick who will be in focus.

f/2.8 is great during vows, with a...

Re: How much do you use a glide/flycam ?

I don't use one, but it seems to me its about what shots would benefit from movement, or the off-the-tripod sort of energy.

Dancing seems like the most obvious place to start
The B&G recessional...
