Re: Still Confused... XMF files to computer?
Raid array is your best bet. I use a pair of 8tb Promise raids that I think are raid 5 configured. Each raid has four 2TB drives. The setup monitors the drives and let's you know if one is failing....

Re: Lighting someone with a dark complexion
Hi Charles!
Wasn't able to see the video but the thumbnail (if representative of the video look) gave me an idea of what you mean.
The Comer light you mention is an on-camera. I don't think...

Re: Which VideoCam comp to 5Dmk2 video?
I use the 7D with my XF 300 all the time and a friend who I shoot with a lot uses the 5D. No problems matching them though you will need to adjust settings in both cameras to get it right. I like the...

Re: Still Confused... XMF files to computer?
No problem Tom! Since I recommended the camera so strongly, i wanted to make sure you have an all around great experience with it. And thanks for the reminder Doug, not sure I stressed that point.

Re: Which zoom lens to get with a budget of 1k?
There is the seemingly forgotten Canon 70-200 f4 L which I have and love. It is under $700 without IS and around $1100 with.
Major benefit is the light weight and of course the price. The con is...

Re: Rode NTG-3 versus Sanken CS 1E
Can't speak for the Sanken other than as a brand they make outstanding mics. I've used several other Sankens back in my recording engineer days and own a COS 11 lav that is awesome.
I do own the...

Re: Blackbird vs Glidecam HD4000
The included guide works very well. I also read a bunch of Steadicam info (thanks Charles Papert!) and all together got mine dialed in nicely. Flew it tonight on a shoot and worked great!

Re: Shutter Speed/180˚ rule
As mentioned, 180 deg shutter is a different term than 180 deg rule. The shutter controls light and motion blur. And shutter speed is absolutely critical on DSLRs. If you use it like you're shooting...

Re: Options for best on board audio?
The xf audio section is good but if you're recording music, I'd also recommend a preamplifier. I have a Sound Devices MM1 (mono) and it really raises the bar when I plug my studio mics or shotguns...

Re: Shutter Speed/180˚ rule
Kind of a two part question and ill touch both since i use a 7D and XF300...
My disclaimer is i normally dont go for the film look with the 300.
The 300 gets a 180 shutter for me in two...

Re: Blackbird vs Glidecam HD4000
The 7D/11-16 works well on the BB as long as you dont have the battery grip.
The 16-35 is a much heavier lens but is manageable on the BB. My buddy flies a 5D/16-35 on a Pilot and it's perfect. It...

I own Premier (through the Production Premium package) but still havent made the switch from FCP. I will eventually but FCP still works great and I'm super fast in it.
Premier is the logical step...

Re: Flycam 6000 or Glidecam HD4000
I use a 4000hd with vest and arm for my xf300 (similar size and weight) and it works great. Took a few hours of tweaking and balancing but since I used a QR plate it's very quick to get going now.

Re: Blackbird vs Glidecam HD4000
I own both. You're on track with your research. The BB is a good tool for DSLRs. Very quick to grab and go (once setup!) I find stripping the dslr down to it's lightest helps.
The GC is heavier...

Re: 1st Prosumer Camera: XH-G1, FS100, or EX1?
I think you'd be rather shocked at how the XF performs in low light. It's virtually identical to the ex1r ... even with the difference in sensor size. Canons done something really right with the 300....

Re: 1st Prosumer Camera: XH-G1, FS100, or EX1?
I only saw the XF300 briefly mentioned so I'll put my opinion out there. When i was doing research came across a few side by sides with the ex1r that helped me make my choice. Shooting the same...

Nicely done!
Have to chuckle, I finished a music vid Friday and the opening sequence is almost identical! Car drives up, door opens feet hit the ground, feet walk. Only in mine it's an '80's rocker...

Re: Compact HD Camera w/ Big Punch!
For pro use, quality of the image and reliable media aren't what I'd consider "goodies" :)
Not saying the XA10 isn't also a great choice cause clearly it produces fantastic images. Just that for...

Re: Compact HD Camera w/ Big Punch!
The HMC 150, while priced very nicely right now, is much larger than what the OP requested. Also in terms of quality it's severely outgunned by all the other pro cameras mentioned and even some of...
