Re: Cat on shoulder style for C300
Simon and Mark: that was actually studio mode--for handheld we added the O-grips and possibly lost the 8" AC's monitor. In terms of ergonomics, that is actually a perfectly good form factor, because...

Re: Cat on shoulder style for C300
Since I asked "where would you add stuff to this", the pictures in that link answer it. And I think they show that it's a haphazard affair of attaching things to the sides, to the top...again, I...

Re: Cat on shoulder style for C300
RIght idea, but too literal. No reason that real estate should be taken up by a block of wood, when there are many possible accessories that could achieve the same level of counterweighting. Clockit...

Re: Is this stuff all drivel?
Last I checked, you can point solid state cameras at the sun--at least you could back in 1985, the first time I saw that technology demonstrated. Has something changed since, where pointing it at...

Re: London Oympics 2012 opening ceremony
Seeing that the stadium seats 80,000 but the opening ceremony was broadcast to 1 billion people, I think the choreographers probably shouldn't mind the technology necessary to achieve the latter!

Re: How to get this look
Philip's assessment seems right, although I sense that the light from camera left is softer than a diffused fresnel--a larger source, perhaps a Chimera, and it looks to be slightly cooled off.

Re: PL Lens VS B4 Lens
All solid info Brian, although--amazingly--1/3" cameras were the go-to only five years ago. Most users here were into the HVX200, EX1* or XLH1; RED was just beginning to ship and existing large...

Re: External monitor for bright sunlight
The DP4 is a fine monitor but not considered daylight-viewable. Specs vary but generally a monitor needs to demonstrate 1000 NIT's brightness for that category and should also have anti-reflective...

Re: Red Epic : Glidecam 4000 ?
Good choice. The performance of the arm in particular is much more desirable with the Zephyr--plus overall sled design is more inert, more easily balanced etc. Are you using a wireless focus control?

Re: Looking for Feedback on the Aviator MX
Thank you Buba (iPhone is about the only camera I handle these days though!)
Yes, a good operator can do decent work on a lesser rig--but he wouldn't want to. It's like asking a concert violinist...

Re: Looking for Feedback on the Aviator MX
The Varizoom rigs are OK but you won't find the same arm performance in any of the small-rig manufacturers outside of the Tiffen Steadicams, as they have the isoelastic design patented. Much smoother...

I have, in the past few years, lost footage on multiple occasions. Most of the time it was because of the recorder, and sometimes because of "operator error". I haven't yet had a specific piece of...
