Re: Capturing vows with wireless, techniques?

100% what Peter said.

I've stopped using the wireless mics for the grooms. My only one is now my feed from the mixing board or on the pastor.

Doing left/right splitting just adds more work for...

Re: First Wedding - advice for a solo shooter?

By the water? Will it be behind the couple? If so, that might be a nightmare of reflected light. Off center cameras might be the best choice.

Re: Keeping focus on full frame

Jeff, I mentioned this before, and I finally pulled the trigger, so I'll be trying this out in a week, but,

someone made an app called "DSLR controller", which should let you use a tablet as a...

Re: Delivery of finished product

I have been delivering custom plastic cases but have decided to change over to custom made (Black River Imaging), using 2 pictures I've taken for the case.

These: DVD-USB Storage | Black River...

Re: Psychological Effects of Video Editing

I seem to recall hearing that our brains just aren't made for focusing and concentrating constantly for more than maybe 45 minutes, and it may have been less than that.

It's one reason films have...

Re: Keeping focus on full frame

The 70D does too much hunting and pecking, and is very noisy with on camera mics. I just bought a triple shoe adaptor that I figure I can turn sideways so one shoe is sticking forward, over the...

Re: First Wedding - advice for a solo shooter?

Sorry I keep posting, I keep thinking of more...

Sometimes I'll have two cameras with me, right next to each other, one wide/medium, the other tight. Usually it's a first dance or speeches. Then...

Re: First Wedding - advice for a solo shooter?

Totally forgot about the 12 minute time limit! We have Magic Lantern installed on our 5d Mark ii, so it hasn't been an issue since we bought it. I presume that would be an option on the 6d and T2i...

Re: First Wedding - advice for a solo shooter?

Adrian is right. More detail is needed to know what to do.

First, plan your audio well. We use 3 pocket recorders and/or lavs to cover 1) the groom to guarantee the vows, 2) lav on the pastor...

Re: Samsung"s NX-1

4k, for me, is about being able to crop in post, and for weddings, would be amazing for an aisle camera.

Mostly, I want more dynamic range, and better info/detail (10 bit or more), and better low...

Re: Explaining your reasons to a bride?

Indeed. Though a wedding date, for us, has value. Especially for popular times of year, the closer to the date, the less value it has IF the client were to cancel on us, since our chance of...

Was it all the sniffing? I bet it was all the sniffing he was doing.

Re: Explaining your reasons to a bride?

As a DJ/MC, I'm always paid before I start, since I have no value once the event is over.

For videography, I understand if someone prefers to wait until afterwards, but I would still insist on...

Re: Recorder interfering with wireless?

If you're wondering how that's possible, consider that really any electronic device will create some sort of magnetic field. Really, the odds that your battery powered pocket recorder will create...

Re: Local news not showing time anymore?

I just assumed it was because, while picking up their smartphone to see the weather, they will see the time right there on their phone.

Re: Survey: ceremony

1. Audio takes maybe 15 minutes. Mic the groom (get him to say his name and the date at the start), mic the pastor, stash another recorder on the lectern or another spot.

2. We use a 3 camera...

Re: Survey: groom prep

I've noticed this changes a lot. I really like a lot of time when they're a fun group and goofing off. You can get great footage. If they're not, then I just need 5 minutes to get 5 shots. Tie...

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

I assumed the videographer stat included Uncle Harry with his camcorder, or cousin Sam with his DSLR. I see that often.

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

Here in the States we have a site called CostofWedding.com which breaks budgets and spending down for each little region. You can see the variation between, say, New York City and my little area,...

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

I would disagree with your %'s, Roger, but not much of anything else.

Perhaps as videography continues to be normalized and be more common, then it will enter into the early weddding budget...

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

I'd have to be insane to do DJ, Video AND photos. Though, we (my wife and I) did just do DJ and photo booth. Next week is DJ and Video.

Not sure if 4K will ever be standard, like HD is, though...

Re: Critique my work (new to this)

Are you F'in kidding me? 5 or 6 weddings? This is excellent... great lighting, color, and awesome camera movement. For a teaser/trailer, the pacing and music is great.

If you can sustain that...

Re: Canon EOS-M: So affordable nowadays...

I thought it would make a great 'just in case' camera. For instance, sometimes I wish I could tuck a spare camera in a spot where I *think* it would get one really great shot (during a ceremony),...

Re: Setting up stage shots

It's from a year ago, but here is the only time we were asked to do this kind of shooting. Skip to 3:17, and it lasts until about the 4:00 mark
