there's a real alternative out there now with the brushless gimbal rigs - it won't do all the things a competent steadicam operator can do but if you're just after...

I use Shootq - it's a US program "in the cloud" and it's designed for wedding photographers but it suits me fine for both commercial & wedding video work.

why not just have a quick release plate on both the tripod & the glidecam - or if you're using DSLR's - buy another one to stay on the glidecam - I have one wide shot on a lightstand, 2 manned on...

I never direct or pose, just shoot what's happening.
I introduce myself and tell them why I'm there and what I'll be doing - I show them the camera and shoot a bit of footage on telephoto to show...

I use led lights on light stands at most weddings - with a bit of thought and sandbags I've never had a problem. I absolutely hate the deer in the headlights look. with led I can even take them close...
