Re: How is this slow mo done?

Hey Max, I also think it's probably an FS700 rather than C100... And it could be used handheld. At those sorts of speeds, you don't need stabilisation. But if it's C100, then it'd probably be...

Re: Left my monopod at a wedding over the weekend.. fml.

Just for fun, here's a list of some bits and pieces I sometimes lose/break on weddings:

-- lens caps
-- rubber bands for Rode VMPs
-- screws that connect Rode VMPs to hot shoe mount
-- feet for...

Re: Left my monopod at a wedding over the weekend.. fml.

Main things I've lost so far are clips and wind socks for lav mics -- grooms and celebrants can do bad things to gear. I always carry spares just in case. One time a celebrant accidentally walked off...

Re: Need a bit of help

Alan, if you really want to steadicam some or all of the processional, then here's two plays to think about, with cameras to be relocated after processional:

1. You're on steadicam, you've got an...

Re: Where are you positioned in the Church?

Height could be your friend. In this case, you could shoot from the sides, instead of the top of the aisle, but still see her. Ie tall tripod, or monopod extended, or simply holding the camera up if...

Re: Wedding ceremony shooting

There's so many possibilities for where to put a second shooter, and so many other variables (like layout), that I don't think there's any perfect answer.

First thought that comes to mind,...

Re: Need a bit of help

Hey Alan, some quick thoughts...

One problem with Catholic ceremonies is that, quite often, the couple will have their backs to the audience for most of it -- hence the need for a camera behind...

Re: tweezer (reprise) teaser

Interesting fast cutting, and I very much liked your dress shot at 0:27.

Re: Weddings: I would like to get your take on specific lenses for specific shots....

Definitely set. Your wallet might be hurting now, but if you take care of that lens you can use it forever. In terms of full frame, you could shoot an entire wedding on 35 and 70-200 and nothing else...

Re: Electronic hard drive delivery

Hey Chad, I don't know the best format, but I guess it partly depends on what you think the clients are going to do with it.

When I supply USB copies, it's generally MP4, and this seems to be a...

Re: Weddings: I would like to get your take on specific lenses for specific shots....

Hey Sean, whether f/4 is good enough for toasts... Your mileage will vary a lot. Round here, it wouldn't be good enough for general reception/dance floor stuff, but it would be good enough for the...

Re: cropped body and lenses

Hey Sean, this is what I currently believe, but I might be completely wrong. So, if anyone who reads this post actually knows what they're talking about, please correct me!

1. 30mm lenses don't...

Re: Lighting and Audio: £1000 ($1600) - What do you do?!

I generally use 3 x Switronix Torch Bolts. Dedolights are fantastic, and I have one, but I always worry about hot lights falling on somebody. The Torch Bolts have fallen over more than once, when...

Re: Weddings: I would like to get your take on specific lenses for specific shots....

Hi Sean,

I don't know how it works with crop factor, etc, but the following is what I'm packing on 5dMk3. All Canon. Note that my personal preference is either for wide or close; I don't like mid...

Re: What do you do if it rains?

I'm actually doing a photoshoot tomorrow (pre-wedding engagement photos), and we've got rain predicted. Rather than change location to somewhere safe, I'm going to try to persuade the couple to shoot...

Re: What do you do if it rains?

Hey Chris, I guess one question is -- why do you need to specify the parts of the day and tell them the video will contain x, y, z? Does it help to engender more trust in the couple, and make them...

Re: Lighting and Audio: £1000 ($1600) - What do you do?!

Do most people shoot high ISO? Yes, including me. Whether people ought to be... Well, maybe that's a long discussion in itself. But one thing about Adams and Roman is that they're prepared to use...

Re: Lighting and Audio: £1000 ($1600) - What do you do?!

1. Cables for plugging into sound systems.
2. Some sort of lav mic for clean sound during vows. Probably x2 so you can pick up priest as well.
3. If wanted to invest in lighting as well, frankly...

Re: Alternatives to the 5D3

Hey Peter, for slow mo I just use the 720p50 on my 5D3s rather than shoot 1080. But I suppose you're also worried that the higher shutter speed makes the image even darker? Well, how do you feel...

Re: Do you charge for rehearsals?

I tell the couple, "If I can, I'll attend." But no guarantees. I wouldn't think they'd pay me extra to attend if I raised the question. And, in the interests of keeping my prices as low as possible,...

Re: Your favorite "Add-On's" that have made your life so much easier!

I've been using use multicam in PPro, for only 6-12 months. It's definitely made a big difference. Not only is it a lot more efficient to edit the formal parts, but (a) the result is better (I can...

Re: Your favorite "Add-On's" that have made your life so much easier!

Could I mention a photo plugin?

I've just discovered the Totally Rad plugins. No doubt there are plenty of other options out there, but this was recommended to me. The Pro Retouch actions I've...
