Re: Insane steadicam shot.
I only played with it a few times myself at trade shows and whatnot. You simply lean in whatever direction you want the unit to drive; forward, backward, sideways (steering). Pretty intuitive once...

Re: Getting that S-Log exposure
I asked my DIT about the metadata today but forgot his answer.
The sub-$1K on-set LUT creation setup is pretty impressive, although now that I've seen it with control surface versus mouse, it...

Re: Getting that S-Log exposure
Ah yes, the agency creatives...good times.
I think REC709 is a great alternative when there isn't time to build custom LUT's. The theory being that if looks anywhere decent there, you know you...

Re: 48 hour film shot list?
As noted above, by shooting most if not all of the scene through a number of different setups (master and various pieces of coverage).

Re: 48 hour film shot list?
You have to be extremely experienced and confident to be able to short your coverage to this extent and not find yourself painted into a corner when you edit. While it's important to have a sense of...

Re: Getting that S-Log exposure
We were building them for each sketch on the HDLink Pro, using the provided Blackmagic software, which was pretty limited plus the post department wasn't able to incorporate them into the dailies...

Re: A quick question on CF cards
For what it's worth: I've had multiple experiences of lost and corrupted files due to both hardware failure and user error with flash recording (CF's and SSD's). Heed Doug's advice: download daily,...

Re: Getting that S-Log exposure
Bruce:
Thanks on the compliments on my footage. I wouldn't really categorize it as "low-light" in the strict sense of the phrase--I rarely went above 800 ISO and generally kept my stop at 2.8/4 or...

Re: Getting that S-Log exposure
Bruce, trying to understand your rant. Are you saying that producers and directors are getting deeply involved/micromanaging your LUT creation? Why are they even seeing the log images to begin with...

Re: F3/S-log for Comedy Central
Since we regularly do color keys to isolate tones in the Davinci, I can only imagine that 4:2:2 would have to represent an advantage over 4:2:0 in that regard.
I will say this: the one area in...

Re: F3/S-log for Comedy Central
I discussed this in a thread here months ago but I can't remember which one--oh well.
I only found out that XDCAM in all of it's flavors was 8 bit (had thought somehow that XDCAM EX was 8 bit and...

Re: CANON 5D Mark III and 2 monitors

Re: F3/S-log for Comedy Central

We shot the pilot on 1DMKIV's and I was able to pitch that we move up a notch from those when we...

Thanks guys. Nigel, we started off with KiProMini's but had issues with corrupted files so we switched to XDCAM disc recorders at the DIT station, which meant we were always tethered--not ideal for...

F3/S-log for Comedy Central
Here are fourteen sketches I shot for last season's "Key & Peele". Shooting two to three completely different looks a day was a great test of the F3's capability and it handled everything extremely...

Well, for those who are less experienced than the 30 yr vets chiming in on this subject, I'm sure there's a lot of head-scratching going on--quite a few divergent opinions going on in this thread....

Re: how good are lowel lights?
There's an old thread about this very issue--some had the problem, others don't. Lowel themselves indicate that hanging the Omni's upside down will shorten the bulb life.

Re: how good are lowel lights?
One major design flaw with the Omni's (unless something has changed in the past 20 years since I used them!) is that the bulb is mounted sideways, compared to the DP series. This makes it possible to...
