Re: DaVinci Resolve Lite (can I use it?)

Hey Chris,

I've only poked around Davinci a bit and never really used it on a project, but since colorista is a plug-in that works inside your NLE, you are exactly right that it is non-destructive...

Re: Need 'low profile hdmi 90 degree cable'

If you can't find what you need, you might want to give them a call and tell them what you are looking for... They make a lot of their own cables and can probably build what you need.

Worth a...

Re: Canon 5D MK III New Firmware - Clean HDMI Output?

It's still early in the month, but I sure hope they don't pull a "BlackMagic Cinema Camera" on us!

Re: 5d3 - Adobe Premiere Pro - Do you use sharpen or the unsharp mask?

Urban,

In my opinion, nothing beats quality glass. The sharpening is just to counter the processing the camera does internally which of course degrades the image. But if you don't have good glass...

Re: Cannot access CF card from computer

Try connecting the camera to your computer with a USB cable... the computer should recognize the card.
Also, if you have a fairly new printer, check to see if you have a card reader built in to it,...

Re: Canon 5D MK III New Firmware - Clean HDMI Output?

I've seen the one from SmallHD and I knew it didn't work with the Mark3, but I didn't know about the LockCircle - The Original Body Cap (http://www.lockcircle.com/) products... thanks!

Re: Canon 5D MK III New Firmware - Clean HDMI Output?

Great post Jon... Too funny/probably true.

Now if they would just re-inforce the HDMI out connector! One touch and it blinks... no big deal when you're just monitoring, but will be hugely annoying...

Re: 6D and mkIII colors different

Have you tried using a custom WB instead of dialing in the Kelvin temp? I would suspect that both cameras will have the best chance at dropping a color cast if you WB to a gray card...
Pretty much...

Re: DaVinci Resolve Lite (can I use it?)

Unless you are color grading pro, SpeedGrade will most likely give you a giant headache in it's current form. I'm hoping this changes with further development, but right now it is too difficult to...

Re: 5D Mk III for Stills and Run-and-gun?

That's good to hear Alex, sounds like a better use for the camera than "run and gun". Even though you can still do run and gun with the 5D3, you just have to be aware of some of the "gotchas" that...

Re: 5D Mk III for Stills and Run-and-gun?

The next thing is:
Forget the camera has any Auto controls. This is a recipe for disaster. Learn how to operate in manual mode!

Re: 5D Mk III for Stills and Run-and-gun?

I would concentrate on making sure you can focus properly. Especially in a shallow DOF situation, you can't trust your on-board LCD screen at all. No matter what lens you get, make sure you either...

Re: 5DIII vs T3i Comparison Footage

The low light performance to me is where the "rubber meets the road". The whole reason I bought the 5DM3. Most other attributes aren't nearly as obvious unless you are doing a comparison test side by...

Re: Using sliders for interviews

Yep, I would say that's a great use for it doing cutaways and add a little dramatic impact etc.
Gotta be careful if you have shallow DOF though! Sliding back and forth will def change focus...

Re: 5d3 - Adobe Premiere Pro - Do you use sharpen or the unsharp mask?

Depends really... if it's a nice medium or CU shot of people, I usually don't apply any sharpening. But for shots when I do need a little sharpening, I use "Sharpen" at around 30.

Re: Using sliders for interviews

If it is structured or scripted a little it might work, but if it's a real Q&A type interview, you could get yourself into a bit of a pickle in the edit where a couple of shots don't cut together...
