I had heard about WD-40 but was kind of sorry I sprayed mine. It was much more difficult to lock it in the middle.
It's a trade off. I suspect it will tighten back up a bit as I continue to use...

I've been wondering the same thing about mixing camcorder footage.
My wife is going to use an HV30 to fill in some of what I miss. She's not fully up ot speed on the DSLR.
