Re: Anyone else not a big fan of the nifty 50?

I'm with you on the 24-70, its just such a useful range, great bokeh and on the 5D and there aren't many occasions that you want to stop down below 2.8 (except for the obvious low-light situations)....

Re: CF card size limitation?

No there is no size limit that I have come up against. I have a Lexar professional 32GB card and have recorded up to around 20GB on it without reformatting (I haven't had the need to go over that).

Re: Hyperdeck: uncompressed w/5DMII?

Spot on Nigel, and thanks for tracking down that info (I was trying to work it out yesterday). The fact that it only records uncompressed really makes this device a strange little beast. Perhaps it...

Re: Which 50mm for video?

If you want to save some dollars and not compromise on quality also consider a Super Takumar SMC. I got mine for around $130 and I have to say it is pretty nice. It's focus throw is over 180 degrees...

Re: JuicedLink Preamp & Barcket DEMO - Chad Johnson

Chad,
Thanks for that post. Those definitely seem to be better solutions. Any ebay links for el cheapo?

Re: JuicedLink Preamp & Barcket DEMO - Chad Johnson

Yes it looks like a great solution particularly for the lighter T2i and a reasonably light lens (Chad, seeing you throw that camera around in your vid made me think that in some situations the weight...

Re: Recharging 5D batteries in remote areas.

Not from the OP but thanks Tony that was an excellent and very comprehensive response.

Re: Major Disadvantages of Using 5D Mk. II for Filming?

I just downloaded and had a play with the AJ 5.0 version of Magic Lantern. I had a freeze after the old hitting-too-many-buttons-too-quickly (popping the battery fixed it).

Other than that I have...

Re: Major Disadvantages of Using 5D Mk. II for Filming?

Chris,
Yes I definitely agree. These are really impressive developments to magic lantern. It's great to see the project developing. I noticed the AJ version is now listed on the magic lantern...

Re: Arri Standard Mount Adapter for Canon 5D?

Yes, in terms of sensor/film size your lenses would be better paired with a 7D or maybe even the 60 or 550D cameras, but even then I'm not sure whether there are issues in adapting your specific...

Re: Atomos Ninja with your Canon 7D?

From the Atomos website

"Supported Input Formats- HD 1080i59.94, 1080i50, 1080p25, 1080p24, 1080p23.98, 720p59.94, 720p50, SD 480i, 576i"

I think it just recognises the format of the HDMI...

Re: B&H HDSLR Educational Series with Shane Hurlbut

I agree with aspects of what Tony is saying here. The conventional wisdom of do-it-all-in-post doesn't always apply. I was recently experimenting with a high contrast monochrome setting and found...

Re: B&H HDSLR Educational Series with Shane Hurlbut

I've found that in-camera sharpness (depending on the subject) can lead to very unattractive aliasing. Personally I would much rather at sharpness in post than risk that kind of ugliness being...

Re: 5D Mk 3?

I totally agree. Although will add that to me "less aliasing" implies much better downscaling or "binning" which will (hopefully) give this camera something much closer to true HD resolution. I...

The levels of the orginal files range from around -40db up to about -25db (the idea was to keep the sine wave sound source a constant volume and vary the levels on the H1). I used wavlab to normalize...

Zoom H1 levels: useless over 50?

Ok so I was hoping to answer this question for myself so I ran a few tests using the on board mic and recording a sine wave file amplified over speakers at a constant volume. I jumped through the...

I get the feeling we aren't going to see anymore substancial firmware updates for the 5D II, but, as a feature request for the 5D III, I would love to see timelaps included in camera.

This is surely a case of the limits of the current hardware. Put simply, 60 fps at 1080p is twice as much data as the current 5D chip has to deal with. Add to this the fact that these cameras are...

I've found myself in a similar situation wanting a fast wide. Only this was in a cave and the lens I had was a 50mm 1.4 takumar. I needed the wide to get as much of the cave in shot as possible. I...

DSLRs used on Jamie Oliver program

I'm a bit of a forum junkie so I've posted this elsewhere on the interwebs, but for the benifit of DVinfo people who don't get around as much as I do I thought I'd post here too.

It's another...
