How was this interview lit?

I'm very impressed with the lighting from the interview segments in this video, it almost looks like it was lit with one light? At first guess I'm thinking a very large soft box, with some obvious...

Re: Using Manfrotto 501PL plate on Sachtler FSB-6?

Excellent, thanks for checking into that for me!

Kind of a question for another thread, but do you have any experience with the speedlock 75 legs? It seems like a far better deal to get one of the...

Re: Using Manfrotto 501PL plate on Sachtler FSB-6?

Chris, you should be able to fit the Sachtler plate on Manfrotto mounts though, correct? So I can use the Sachtler plate on my camera, but like my BHDV-1 monopod, and my glidecam with the 577 adapter...

Using Manfrotto 501PL plate on Sachtler FSB-6?

I've read many times that you can use the Manfrotto 501PL plates, such as what are used on the 501 & 701 manfrotto heads, on the Sachtler FSB-6. However there are two versions of the Sachtler heads....

Re: Places to buy equipment other than B&H/Adorama?

Thanks Helen, looks like Adorama might be a better option since you are willing to expedite shipping.
I'm simply tired of going to B&H's website and having a giant banner come up that says "CLOSED"...

Places to buy equipment other than B&H/Adorama?

I'm a little irradiated at not being able to purchase from b&h and adorama during certain times of the year. Amazon is also out of the question due to recent sales tax law here in California. Is...

Re: Interview lighting kit, easy to travel with.

I've used LED's before in a traditional 3-point set up, and I was very happy with the result. I worry about taking those same lights on the plane however. They are too large to carry-on, so they will...

Interview lighting kit, easy to travel with.

I'm looking for a interview lighting kit for documentary work, something that is durable and easy to travel with, quick to set up and break down. I'm assuming 3 lights would be the norm, though I've...

5d Mk. III for Broadcast - Yes or No?

Okay, so I've been reading up and down this forum, and up and down the internet through various blogs, PBS POV, and tons others that have articles mentioning the 5D Mark III for broadcast.

If I'm...

Re: "Broadcast Friendly" color and bitrate necessary?

Odd thing about this though, I just checked with a major PBS affiliate for national broadcast specs, and they specified that:

"HD program submissions are defined as those programs which have been...

Re: "Broadcast Friendly" color and bitrate necessary?

Not speaking specifically about shooting footage and delivering it to a network, but delivering a final product to them to air. So say it was shot on a DSLR which does not meet those requirements,...

"Broadcast Friendly" color and bitrate necessary?

Alright, I have a simple question that has been driving me nuts, especially with new cameras coming out, it just gets more and more complicated.

When shooting for broadcast HD television and...

Re: Broadcast quality lavalier?

The sound devices recorder also has a very nice preamp though I believe, so I would assume that the pre-amp+recorder combination would be better than running it straight intot he H4N's almost...

Broadcast quality lavalier?

We have recently been funded for a documentary and I need to upgrade my audio gear. For my previous interviews I have either been using my giant squid mics with the H1, H2, or H4N, or i've been using...

Re: 5dMk3 Pixelation - Corrupt Files?

I've had this problem several times now, all with the same cards and also showing up on my 7D now. I've got a high profile shoot coming up this weekend and I need to make sure I have good data. Is...

5dMk3 Pixelation - Corrupt Files?

I've shot a few projects on the MkIII that I rented twice from two different rental outlets, so I know it was not the specific camera. On some shots during certain frames I get some pretty bad video...

Re: Questions about "Fair Use"

It's a personal project, not for a client. What about documentaries that use news footage, is that not considered public domain? I've had places try to charge me for ABC news footage of congress from...

Re: Questions about "Fair Use"

So all the documentaries I see that use footage from old tv shows and old movies, had to pay to use those?
But you can use the clip if you are poking fun at it?

Re: Questions about "Fair Use"

Yeah, attorney's cost money. Free advice has never served me wrong in the past. The real world situation is that I'm producing a documentary about Space. So if I want to use a 2-5 second clip from a...

I'm putting together a pitch video, and will probably use a lot that went into that the final documentary well. The question is, I've read from different sources that you can use almost anything if...

Re: Street interview mic w/separate recorder? MD46?

Well I did a few interviews today using a magic lantern 60d and my juicedlink 231 preamp. Recorded straight to the camera and didn't use the h4n. Turned out pretty good with the MD46. Would be nice...

Re: Street interview mic w/separate recorder? MD46?

Strange thing I just discovered about the H4N, if i use a 3.5 to xlr adapter and plug into the 3.5 mic input on the h4n, the volume isn't bad. But even better, if I plug into my juicedlink CX231...

Re: Street interview mic w/separate recorder? MD46?

To Steve: So I guess the question becomes then, what is an appropriate recorder to use with a dynamic microphone?

Also, what would you suggest is the best dress for an...
