I know you said "besides shoot in manual," but that's really the only way to learn the ins and outs of your camera. I always shot auto iris until I got a new camera with an old lens that didn't work...

You have to go into the menu under timecode...
You have to go into the menu under timecode preset. It will say 00:00:00:00 then under it it will say reset. Choose "reset" and the timecode will start at zero.
