Hi Derek,
I had the same problem for a good while. Here's what solved it for me:
1. Update your 7D firmware to the latest version (you can dwnload it from canon.com)
2. Transcode your footage...

hd10u broken button
I happened to have the same problem. JVC will charge me 200 usd for the button. I think the price is outrageous!
Anyone knows where to buy a cheap replacement button?
