Re: Maintaining highlights with dslr's outdoors

Just my preference, but I think the 3rd looks the best. The 2nd example looks like "shadow/highlights" and/or neat video were used? True, you can regain the highlights details, but it looks less...

Re: Lens use for glidecam/merlin?

I do not have a 2nd shooter currently, and am considering a steadicam. The above responses are useful. I'll probably try my Sigma 20mm 1.8 first. I'll obviously want to practice a ton before using it...

Re: Family Session Videos?

I agree with the comments. Maybe if I did one for a friend, offered it as a service, just to see if the interest was out there. Because I mostly film one-take events (weddings, etc.), it just seems...

Re: Family Session Videos?

Or let me add a question. Even if you're not filming these, do you think there'd be any interest? Getting my feet wet a little would be the only way to know for sure, but just thought I'd start here...

Re: Help with DSLR Focusing

Depending on the lighting, I can get away with aperture at 16 or 18, if I keep my iso around 800. Helps a ton with the depth of field!

Family Session Videos?

The thing that initially got me into wedding videography was editing photo/video shorts of my now-wife and I when we were in college. I'd just take a camera with us most places, and if it seemed...

Re: Random questions in the form of a questionnaire

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I'll work up a little excel graph later. The main thing I learned (or confirmed) is that I need to move away from label printing. Seems as though Epson was the...

Re: Random questions in the form of a questionnaire

One more question I thought of (that may not get picked up by the responders, but I'll give it a try): for steadicam users, do you use an arm/vest? I film with DSLR, so I'm not sure if a arm/vest...

Re: Random questions in the form of a questionnaire

1) How often do you film with a 2nd shooter? Maybe 20% of the time. I'm starting to see that it may be inevitable. Or at least having an assistant!
2) How many cameras do you use for the ceremony?...

Random questions in the form of a questionnaire

Ok, it's time for another questionnaire! As always, I'll compile them after a few days into translated results.

1) How often do you film with a 2nd shooter?
2) How many cameras do you use for the...

Re: Senn. G3 Static

Sure thing. This example is from a wedding Saturday. This noise was more of a popping static than what I described above. One thing I noticed about this example is that I didn't have any issues when...

Senn. G3 Static

I've got a Senn. G3 with a tiny static problem that I wondered if it was fixable. Right now, I've got them set up on the same channel (of course), and it's picking it up loud and clear. The only...

Re: Can't Burn Blu-Ray

I have tried both Folders and Images. They build in Encore fine (seemingly). It's when I go to write that I've been getting the problems. Latest attempt - burning an image in IMGBurn. I got the error...

Re: Can't Burn Blu-Ray

Thanks for the reply! I should've mentioned in my original post that I start the program with Run as Administrator, and have also tried burning an ISO into Nero and IMGBurn.

Can't Burn Blu-Ray

I recently filmed a wedding, edited in Premiere CS5, and encoded to MPEG-Blu-Ray (.m2v files). I created a project in Encore CS5 and clicked Build when I was ready. After it built the menus, it...

Re: Senn. G3 with JuicedLink box

Well, I'm more relieved than I am frustrated, but I figured out what the source of all this was. Saturday was my first wedding with an assistant (he hasn't shot a wedding before, so I was going to...

Re: Senn. G3 with JuicedLink box

I reset both transmitter and receiver this morning. I have verified they are both on the same frequency. I was actually able to plug the mic into a Zoom H2 earlier and it worked great. When I get...

Re: Senn. G3 with JuicedLink box

The cable from the sound board was just a standard 1/4" cable, with a mini adapter, to the transmitter. The receiver used the mini-to-XLR that was provided by Senn. Now I'm sort of worried that I...

Re: Tripod skipping on pans?

It is a physical problem (vs on the camera). I had the same issue yesterday. I see the three screws you are talking about. I'll tighten them up today and play around with it a little bit. Thanks!

Tripod skipping on pans?

I primarily use a Manfrotto 501HDV head Manfrotto with 190xProB legs. Although it does not happen with consistency, often when I am panning, the head will all of a sudden skip (or jump). It only does...

Re: Senn. G3 with JuicedLink box

I think it was - good call. Hmm...my NTG-2 is using phantom power though...

Edit: I always thought you had to have an extra battery pack (accessory) for the NTG-2 to not run on phantom power....

Senn. G3 with JuicedLink box

I have a JuicedLink CX231. Wednesday I went to a concert. I plugged a Sennheiser G3 transmitter into the sound board at the venue. Into the JuicedLink, I plugged the G3 receiver, as well as a Rode...

What's the longest lens you use?

I am looking at a Canon 100-400mm 4.5-5.6L lens to help with ceremony footage in big churches. Even with the tripod collar for the lens, I wondered if there was any bouncing when fully zoomed in?...

Re: Josh and Katie - Highlights

Thanks Greg that means a lot! I just shoot with a T2i and primarily use either a Canon 50mm 1.4 or a Sigma 20mm 1.8. For grading I use Magic Bullet Looks - gotta love the Warm Spot Focus filter!

Re: Thanks Mark Von Lanken

I wonder if anyone has any available footage they could post comparing this (or similar) setup versus without?
