Re: I'm thinking of shooting this project in 720p. Is that a good idea?

Sounds pretty logical to me though I don't know what the requirements of film festivals are.

I can say from having owned the hmc-150, it looks really nice in 720. Much better than 1080.

Have...

Re: Lighting Rig Advice.

David, the Data video system uses the glass bead BG right? It doesn't require lighting. (I'm sure you know this if it's the system I'm thinking of) which really means you just need to light the...

Re: 60d 7D proof

The 7D has full HD out the hdmi during recording. Don't know if the 60d does that.
I don't really use that feature all that much but the times where my client has wanted to view the shot, it's been...

Re: Teleprompter Software for Mac

I think that's a bit over-dramatic. Even though I'm a Mac-head, I chose to buy a cheap windows laptop and PromptDog which is $40.
There's plenty of Mac solutions for way under $100. Here's one I've...

Re: Apple-Like White Background for Interviews - How-to?

I use the 10 foot wide bright white photo paper background. Wasn't terribly expensive and when a piece gets dirty you just cut it off and roll out a bit more. Then my kids have an enormous canvas...

Re: Sanity check

Thanks for the input!
So there may be a reason is what I'm hearing. Ive done a fair amount of grading and It just seems like this is going to be a bigger pain than it needs to be. I'll just have to...

Re: Sanity check

YESSSSSS! (love your signature quote!)
I know of these guys but have never seen their work. They are an indie film company so I probably won't cross paths with them. My only connection is my friend...

Sanity check

Friend of mine showed me some 5D footage he shot with a 50mm 1.4 and I told him it looked dark, flat and the actors were moving in and out of focus.
He said he was working with a couple of "digital...

Re: sachtler legs

I mistakenly thought Sachtler legs were going to magically weigh nothing and be about the same stability as my Manfrotto aluminum legs...

Well, they are a bit lighter, not night and day, but 10...

Re: Question about some of the newer, less expensive cameras for greenscreen work cam

Low light Noise performance is virtually identical. Saw some side by sides before buying my 300. Canons done some stuff with the noise reduction to bring the performance way up for a 1/3" camera. ...

Re: Legal, cheap hit-music sync licenseing via "Zoom Music Lic."...anyone tried them?

Totally with Bill on this one. Been doing this for a very long time and when something sounds too good to be true....well you know the rest.

Personally, I'd call an entertainment lawyer to read...

Re: what is your take on smooth cam in Final Cut Pro 7

Lol! Yeah...but it's handy for stuff like car-mount footage and times when you have to deal with other people's mess!
It also did wonders on some in flight footage I took handheld in the nose of a...

Re: what is your take on smooth cam in Final Cut Pro 7

I use lock and load which is significantly faster. They seem to provide similar results but the speed was worth the price.

Re: Legal, cheap hit-music sync licenseing via "Zoom Music Lic."...anyone tried them?

That's interesting. The keyword for me is "imbed" which means YouTube controls it and can very easily track it and it's probably not going to be public on YouTube. Much less traffic on the 14year...

Re: Legal, cheap hit-music sync licenseing via "Zoom Music Lic."...anyone tried them?

I have to chuckle at the amount of effort put into finding a way around a pretty simple law. Countless threads and still no way around it...Hmmmmmmm.

Face it, you aren't going to legally use a...

Re: Dealing "Cards" ..... again.. Sandisk "Sweet-spot"

Been using Sandisk extreme cards (not pro) for quite a while now with great success. I have 4 32gig and 2 16gig which get divided between my xf300 and 7D.

Re: Question about some of the newer, less expensive cameras for greenscreen work cam

Sorry Kevin but used both the Panny's for years. Replaced with the Canon XF300 which blows them both away. The EX1r is very close. Edited bunches of footage from that. I just prefer the Canon...

Re: music video, would be weird if i had credits @ end?

Since the Internet is the distribution, I think the credits should be there. At the end of course so the viewers don't get upset. I've done a few "lower budget" music vids and I tell the bands I'm...

Re: Is there an open-source time-lapse software?

I had an off brand intervalometer for my t2i which was about $50 on Amazon which worked perfectly. And it even had an on/off switch which my Canon brand for the 5D/7D doesnt!

Re: Front of stage mic?

Best way I've found to use PZMs is mounted to music stands in front of the stage (not on it) angled a bit towards the actors. I have seen a plexiglass mic stand adapter that the PZMs attach to as...

Re: Evf caps have arrived-get yours now!

I use my kids old baby socks on my cameras. And Canon isn't the only brand with this issue. A friend toasted his Panny 170 evf to the cost of about $250. It was exposed for less than a minute to the...

Re: Need to pass on advice on "personal" camera

check post #2 ;)

Agree the 701 is fine for the xf100. Instead of sticks, could even use a Gorillapod and anything on hand like a chair or door!

Re: Need to pass on advice on "personal" camera

Garrett, I have to disagree strongly with you. She sounds like a prosumer at best. Adding the need to manually focus, have several lenses, separate audio rig, viewfinder, etc. IMHO is a lot to deal...

Re: XF100 cannot separate audio channels when recording from an external mike

Fair enough. My audio backup is always using two mics. Generally a shotgun for main and a lav as backup. Or two lavs. If my main mic fails, the other one is there.
Just different ways of working....
