Re: Do you support heavy lenses on the C300?
I have rods, but no supports for the smaller lenses. (I do for the 70-200.) The big lesson is to be aware of the stresses - and don't wheel the camera around unless there are ZERO bumps.

Re: Canon 5D M IV - any good news
Very nice!
I can imagine that the 4K crop factor is a good thing for wildlife and not such a good thing for wide, establishing shots.
I'd love to know your opinion about HDR (is it useful or a...

Re: Do you support heavy lenses on the C300?
This. ^^^^^
A while back, I was shooting some corporate b-roll using a Kessler Pocket Jib on wheels. We were using the Sony FS700 with an adapter to a modest EF lens. Everything was fine while in...

Re: The value of Cinefoil
Aside from being silver, aluminum foil could work for very short pieces, but with any size at all, it will droop and deform - especially when hot. Cinefoil is amazingly sturdy and stable, by...

Re: Audio setup for man on the street interviews
A friend of mine shot news, professionally. He'd generally have a sound person as well as an on-camera mic as a backup. But sometimes with a breaking story, there was no time to get an audio op.

Re: best lenses for C300 mk 2
I hear you about sharpening. It might look good when comparing two high-quality images side-by-side, but viewers don't do A-B comparisons. So unless an image is overly soft, nobody notices. And as...

Re: best lenses for C300 mk 2
When you say it "it performed a little better than the 70-200 2.8 mk2", in what regard?
It could be resolution, CA, vignetting, color, flare, coma, IS... Or maybe just the overall look, which can...

Re: best lenses for C300 mk 2
So that might be one difference. I can use IS with the Mk II on a tripod and the results are good. In one case, I was on somewhat squishy carpet using a tripod with pads, rather than spikes. Just...

Re: best lenses for C300 mk 2
That's awesome that you were able to check it. And I'm not that surprised that the Mk I looks good. Based on those test shots, the blur is very uniform and is well-controlled with no discernible CA....

Re: best lenses for C300 mk 2
I hope your Mk I holds up as well. I use the Mk II we have here at work. If the Mk I is as good, I'll start shopping for one on craigslist!
Here's a comparison of sharpness at The-Digital-Picture....

Re: best lenses for C300 mk 2
Some time ago, I went from the 70-300/4.5-5.6 IS to the 200/2.8L prime for stills and the improvement was amazing. I then went to the 70-200/2.8L II IS and expected some drop off compared to the...

Re: One-man-team - Looking For Advice.
Generally, audio is more important than video. For a really low budget doc, I'd use a cell phone. There are clip on lenses if you need a tighter angle. The shooter probably needs a cell phone anyway,...

Re: Canon 5D M IV - any good news
Yeah, it's all "high dynamic range", but with very different scenarios and solutions. The branding could be better., but HDR is all we got.
BTW, I got the iPhone 7 (not Plus). Low light shooting...

Re: Canon 5D M IV - any good news
Hi Tom,
Yes, that's the key to HDR photography, which only has so much dynamic range when printed or shown on a normal display. If you work with light and dark extremes globally, it's the same as...

Re: Canon 5D M IV - any good news
One way to think of this is Pro Camera HDR vs. Display HDR vs. Consumer Camera HDR.
In Pro Camera HDR, you capture as much dynamic range with as many bits as you can afford. You can then mask,...

Re: Canon 5D M IV - any good news
I'm not surprised that you're using good camera mounting and don't want the extra size/weight/complexity of a monitor/recorder for nature projects. And like you, I've learned to make-do with the...

Re: Canon 5D M IV - any good news
I've seen some recent evidence of moderate to high rolling shutter effect on the 5D4 when shooting 4K. I'm not sure if HD is better; the example was 4K only. If you shoot on a tripod, it should be...

Re: Canon 5D M IV - any good news
Yes, when shooting flat or with low contrast, the image out of the camera will have less contrast. But it captures more bits in the highs and lows. From there, one can grade it, possibly with power...
