Hi Nigel,

Is that the 5DMKII battery grip? Does it give full functionality or is it limited like the inexpensive, non-Canon batteries are?

How low a crane can go without tipping

I've been searching but can't find the answer to a question I have about cranes in general, the Kessler crane in particular.

I'm planning a shot on a walkway that's just a few feet over a brook. I...

Zoom H4n

Dan,

I, too, recently got the Zoom H4N. I know bupkus about the finer points of audio, but the sound IS pretty great, for the money and for the size. I'm particularly impressed by the built-in XY...

Just awesome stuff, Thomas!

I downloaded the larger file for an even more majestic effect, if that's possible. Makes me want to take a vacation in the desert.

Great work.

Chris, thank you but there's no reason to apologize; please don't give it another thought.

I thought it might be a change for Canon, too. Unfortunately the only change is in my hope/belief they'd...

great idea

Bill and Jay,

I thought that was a great idea -- and it seems do-able via firmware without eating into Canon's camcorder business -- so I forwarded it to Canon support telling them so. I've...

No, that's specifically for the Sony recorder. The Sony XLR-1 mic adapter. It's $450 and is as big as the recorder itself. Crazy.

So a $6.99 adapter can give me the same capability (with a...

Mike,

The Micro Track II sounds pretty good, and it's at Amazon for $269, ... but it doesn't have XLR connections. I don't know enough about adapters -- or if there even are adapters -- to connect...

Zoom H4n: lovers and haters

Bill,

I've been trying to read as much as I can about the Zoom H4n on the web. There's not much and very few samples. Brad Linder's blog has both excellent (quiet) and awful (hissy) samples, which...

Zoom H4n or Marantz PMD661?

I'm in the market for a recorder and I've been reading good things about both of these. The Zoom is quite a bit cheaper but I heard a sample of the Marantz and it sounded better than the Zoom sample...

yes to non-AI mounts

I can answer my own question now. Yes, the adapters will work with non-AI mount lenses, too. At least my Kawa adapter worked just fine with an inexpensive Nikon non-AI mount 28mm f2.5 Vivitar lens.

I got 2 Kawas for a total of about $32 -- the shipping charge equalled the cost of the adapters, but that still makes 'em $16 each and they both work just fine. I'm an SLR newbie so I have nothing to...

Echoing Jon, the audio in the right channel was nil.
