Re: NEX-5N review
Not even close. The Canon xf300 50mbps 4:2:2 mpeg2 codec blows the Sony XDCam mpeg2 codecs at 35mbit away. And also the AVCHD on the FS100 is no match for the canon codec.

Re: XA 10: Wide Angle adaptor vs STD lens
Lower the contrast? But it isn't that good? People have been trying to increase dynamic range and lower the contrast but you can just pluck on a wide angle lens that does it for you! Yay!
I don't...

Re: XF300 vs. 7d
Yes, these 1/3 inch cameras are great for event work. But where the DSLR's shine is narrative work. You do double audio anyway and everything is controlled. The positives outweight the negatives.

Re: XF300 vs. 7d
It will look even worse on a deep dof camera such as the XF-series. I've seen a lot of poorly shot documentary footage where the focus is on the backwall instead of the speaker. Never seen anything...

Re: XF300 - very bad Moire pattern
FCP7 is also pretty weird in the way it downscales.
My workflow is to do a quicktime conversion export from the HD timeline (progressive sequence) to an SD prores at 720x576 (pal). This prores...

Re: XF300 - very bad Moire pattern
Your output to dvd was probably screwed. Like if you just put the HD version onto DVD Studio Pro it will convert to SD with very, very bad quality. This will introduce all kinds off artifacts.

Re: XF105 and ND Filter
My old Sony HC1 has this too. It just moves the ND filters slowly into place when at F4, there is no negative gain. You cannot physically do that much negative gain on any sensor. The ND filters on...

Yes it has an ND filter. No you cannot apply THAT much negative gain. Cameras usually have -3db.

Re: FS100 or F3?
Where are these "comparable" clips? The only real (not vimeo compressed) clips I've seen show that the F3 is slightly sharper. That's it.

I was wondering why you were getting so red in the face.
Let's take a look at your post once more: "Why on earth would slow motion be a factor for deciding? "
Now I have explained it to you...

Re: Canon Vixia HF G10 Sample videos
It's called bob-deinterlacing. It effectively creates two progressive images from one interlaced. It's not rocket science.
And it would be way more horrible than having a 60i image. Try it out...

Re: Canon Vixia HF G10 Sample videos
Maybe you should learn the difference between 60 and 30? Yes, 60 is interlaced, but that is still 2x more temporal information. Eric has it right.

Re: Interline Twitter and sharpness
FCP scaling is only bad when you mix up your interlace settings. Trying to scale material that FCP deems as "interlaced" will look horrible. Scaling material that is properly set as progressive will...

I Love War - pyrotechnics, Canon 7d & 5d
This was basically us just doing some real pyrotechnics for a change, none of that cgi stuff anymore. Canon 7d took a bit of a hit at the end there! Got some good atmosphere at the start, but then we...

Re: Sony to expand 35mm large format NXCAM lineup
Or it may have the same rolling shutter as RED in 2k mode. Which means about half, but also only 1/4 of the pixels is used.
Or it may have a "slightly" better rolling shutter when shooting high...

Re: CS5's PAL 16:9 aspect ratio is WRONG
I agree with Ernesto and think that this change is seriously stupid. DVD's have been 1.42 for ages, the've all shown perfectly and we've been making dvd's for a long time without any problems.
But...
