Re: Duran Duran Super35 mm Mega Shoot.

Nice pic Nate, I don't think I've seen that one.

Green Day was my second to last concert shoot as a Steadicam operator (followed by last year's "Glee" show at Radio City).

Below: my Green Day...

Re: RED PRO 18-85mm (BT) with F3

The concept of an "affordable" Super35 sensor camera came about so quickly that it's created quite a pricing gap between body and lenses. I imagine there are more than a few F3 early adopters who are...

Re: RED PRO 18-85mm (BT) with F3

Actually the 45-120 is in the original Optimo family (15-40 and 28-76) compatible with 35mm film and digital cameras, while the two you listed are in the Optimo DP (formerly Rouge) series of less...

Re: antlers and electronic leveler

You should be able to pop the level out easily without it breaking--they are quite tough (and actually made of plastic, not glass).

Your built-in inertial "improver" with the Pilot is of course...

Re: HD-SDI and HDMI simultaneous output??

Hi Dan:

Thanks! I saw those 9" ones in my search but that's just undersized for what I need--I have the nano air-spaced behind the camera so I can get to the controls plus I need extra length for...

Re: HD-SDI and HDMI simultaneous output??

Thanks Dan! I thought I had that option checked but apparently I didn't. That's good news.

I've been using the Nano of late as my preferred HDMI to HD-SDI converter (more reliable than the...

Re: antlers and electronic leveler

Hi Gregory:

I've had a notion for years now to manufacture mini-antlers, but getting into manufacturing is a headache I can't take on. Have approached a few existing companies about these and...

Re: HD-SDI and HDMI simultaneous output??

Embedded timecode should stay within the signal when looped through a monitor.

You only have one SDI cable??!! I don't think I'm going far out on a limb to suggest you pick up another one (or...

Re: HD-SDI and HDMI simultaneous output??

Dan...can you comment on latency when cross-converting modes on the Nanoflash? I notice there is a small (maybe 2 frame) delay with HDMI in and SDI out--does this occur in the reverse direction as...

Re: Very nice vari-nd filter

I've been lurking and watching for the right variable ND and have been intending to put a gear on it so I can motorize it for my Preston system--this will be the final link to make my ZE's as...

Re: Picking Decent Stop-gap Zoom Lenses

My friendly UPS man just dropped off a new and hard-to-get Tokina 16-28, the first in their new full-frame FX series which will presumably include updates of the 28-80 and 80-200 (both of which I...

Re: New Zeiss 35mm F1.4

I think the only real reason to invest the extra money into this would be if one has a tendency towards working with a "showy" depth of field. I personally shoot 90% or more of my work at a f2.8 or...

Re: Beautiful glidecam work of Kauai!

Some very nice work there.

In Devin's blog he does note that he applied Smoothcam to some of the shots, which I had suspected. A skilled Steadicam operator can achieve most of these results on any...

Re: Love Hexagon - short film I'm DPing

So let me ask you, Monsieur Bass; if you are having to work so hard to work the hyperfocal with the 5D, resulting in a pretty deep focus result, why not just use a camera like the EX's which is so...

Re: Grad ND Filter

I'm not familiar with the Cavisions. Have used both Schneiders and Tiffens for years. My collection is split pretty evenly between the two manufacturers, probably more Schneiders.

Generally I...

Re: Grad ND Filter

At this point, the most useful application for grads is to contain what would otherwise be outside the exposure range of the camera (i.e. clipped sky). "Creative" use of grads, to deepen sections of...

Re: PowerTap options?

Powertap (or D-tap) is indeed a standard. Switronix makes decent 3rd party accessories that conform to the standard. Your choice should probably be made on which is the best length for your...

Re: anyone know what camera this is?

Genesis it is indeed. The panel on the back is the Sony wired remote. I used them a lot from 2006 to 2009 or so and they are still decent looking cameras, but first the F35 and now the Alexa have...

My bed will never be quite the same...

The old adage in the industry is "never let a film crew into your house". I've adhered pretty closely to this since I remodeled a few years ago but this one seemed like a goodie: a shoot for a DVD...

Re: Hair light position to stop bald forehead reflections

Doesn't take a "big crew" to use large soft sources--might be a bit much for a one man band but after that, it's the style I generally use even with the skimpiest crew. These days you can get...

Re: Hard Cases- What are the options?

Yup, that's about their going rate for a medium size flight case, foamed out. If you start adding trays or flaps it obviously goes up a bit.

Re: Hard Cases- What are the options?

Nick, call Louis Kaye at Innerspace Cases, 818-767-3030, tell him I sent ya. They have templates for all major cameras and accessories, I imagine they have done F3's already. They do great custom...

Bill, unless a post got deleted somehow, you are referring to Steve's only post in this thread and he wasn't the one looking for advice.

As for me, what I didn't get around to saying is that not...
