Re: X-22 vs. Zephyr, AB vs. V mount, SD vs. HD monitor

There is no "legal" definition of daylight-viewable. Nits don't count for much if the monitor has a shiny, non-coated surface that reflects everything around you.

Sometimes, the worst scenario...

Re: Tokina 28-80/2.8 on 550D

I use both this lens and the 80-200 for shooting video--they are a tad softer than the similar Canons but of course less expensive. Build quality is great, they are tanks. I like that both have...

Re: X-22 vs. Zephyr, AB vs. V mount, SD vs. HD monitor

I used to use the old Flyer monitor with my lightweight rig and it was "acceptable" outside (not great but viewable, as Mark says, except under worst-case conditions). Very disappointed to hear that...

Re: Balancing a glidecam !?

Thanks Pascal. All is going well--just shot my second network pilot and believe it or not, I don't miss flying the rig at all...!

The patent thing is based on distant memory--I may have it wrong...

Re: Balancing a glidecam !?

Actually the offset handle on the Glidecam is there to avoid patent infringement which was relevant when it first came out (that patent has expired, hence the Blackbird).

All handheld stabilizers...

Re: Studio Green Screen Lighting Advice

Kinos are indeed the way to go. They run cool, light evenly and are relatively inexpensive. I'm sure there are knockoffs that will do the job but you can search here for information for those, I...

Re: Major Disadvantages of Using 5D Mk. II for Filming?

Chris, I mostly shoot with the 1DMKIV--are any of his hacks available for that camera do you think? and do you have to reboot every time you power up?

Re: Major Disadvantages of Using 5D Mk. II for Filming?

What up, Messrs Tames and Bass.

While I have thrown myself into the DSLR world in the past 18 months, and am largely pleased with the results (and certainly on the recessionary slash-and-burn...

Re: Pan technique

After years of having viewfinders physically locked to cameras (literally the case with film cameras, and effectively the case with broadcast cameras) we have gotten to the point where onboard...

Re: Florescent and LED spectrum is nowhere near flat

I can't tell you what the technical difference is between high and low end flos and LED's, but the bottom line is that the products packaged for the film industry photograph just fine. Most features...

Re: Pics of the F3 on a handheld rig

Ahem guys--welcome to the big leagues. Large sensor PL cameras mean heavy lenses. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, consider the solutions that have been in place for years to manage larger rigs.

Re: Zeiss ZF/compact primes vs. Standards

Yes it does--it becomes a mounting point for accessories at the front of the camera assembly. Which I've taken to a further level than O'Connor themselves--see attached photo. However, the...

Re: Zeiss ZF/compact primes vs. Standards

Seconded on the O-box--I just bought one last month. There are a few caveats on it but it is overall built very solidly with an intelligent design. The unique addition of the mounting bar on top is...

Re: Night shoot with Zeiss CP2 lens.

Good job pulling your own focus wide open, not easy at all. Of course as you said, an AC would have helped.

Two battery powered lights could have elevated the visuals significantly. Some shots are...

Re: Steadicam Zephyr-upgrade changes

It is unfortunate that the smaller stabilizers (and really, the whole Tiffen line) are not modular units--you have to buy the whole enchilada. Compare this with the high end offerings from...

I'm directing a video for the band "Stealing Heather" that is really more of a short film around the theme of domestic violence. We needed to put something together to raise money on Kickstarter and...

Hi Mike:

Thanks! However--are you suggesting that with a full crew it would take longer to get the same results than a two person crew?! that seems a bit whimsical...obviously with a full crew we...

Re: Ready-To-Shoot Red Epic vs F3 Cost

Thanks Steve. I'm using the 1DMKIV's for the pilot with a 7D as 3rd camera as needed. I like the low-light capabilities of the 1D.

DP work is going great, thanks! You can see much of at at link...

Re: Ready-To-Shoot Red Epic vs F3 Cost

I know this has been said before, but there is really no point in comparing a camera that is shipping to one that is announced. By the time the Epic-S materializes in the flesh, there may well be...

Re: Wireless monitor setup?

My experience with the IDX system was less than bombproof. At least in terms of operation. It can be very quirky; sometimes it works great, other times it won't transmit a few feet away. I have heard...

Re: Determining Your Lighting Needs

Lighting needs vary so widely depending on what one is shooting. The package to use on a one or two man band travel gig to shoot interviews will be very different on the one to use on a narrative...
