Re: XF100 in da house

I haven't had a chance to test this yet. I'll leave it up to others. I primarily shoot interviews and stage presentations and the like. Not a lot of movement there. :)

Re: What's the deal with MXF on Mac's

Gaaack. My bad. I had a color corrector filter dropped on the clip.
Apropos, it's interesting that FCP thinks the right compressor for my Sequence is XDCAM 422 24P 50mbps. Is that the same as MXF?

Re: What's the deal with MXF on Mac's

What I'm seeing with FCP7 is that I can definitely work in the native codec with the nominal re-wrap that Log and Transfer does, but the video on the timeline shows with the green bars, indicating...

What a lovely little machine. First impressions:
1) Very sturdy feel for such a light camera

Re: What software for Canon MXF editing?

Apropos the questions about file metadata being lost from L&T, the only thing I usually care about in the metadata is the date and time the clip was shot. FCP lets me rename the clips on ingest to a...

Re: Canon XF100 in stock!

Yikes. Which ones do they recommend? I downloaded the user manual, and I couldn't find anything that recommends a particular model of card.

Re: Concert Audio

This is exactly what my Zoom H1 is great for. Just get a 1/4"-1/8" adapter. Then toss the audio onto your Final Cut Pro timeline next to the video and run PluralEyes on it. The more audio sources...

Re: Hyperdeck: uncompressed w/5DMII?

This is something that Canon (and others) may or may not choose to address. An example of how Canon feel about this can be found in their new-ish like of pro camcorders. Their XF100 and XF300...

Re: Anyone using 720 60p?

Converting has to re-interpret the frames and retain the timing of the clip. This can mean blending frame data to make a single frame out of every 2 1/2 frames. It can work well with certain kinds of...

Re: Anyone using 720 60p?

It depends on your delivery medium. If you're making SD DVDs, you'll have to downshift the frame rate in post to 23.976, so you can end up losing quality. If you're delivering online, it depends on...

Re: XF300's new competitor

Sadly, it seems they're still using proprietary P2 cards. And it's "scheduled for release in Autumn 2011".

Otherwise, it looks interesting.

Re: help with editing XF video

Why not just convert the footage to Apple ProRes format (relatively lossless and fully-compatible with older FCPs) and send them that?

Re: What's up with the zero supply in the US?

Thank you. Hopefully things loosen up soon. Of course, I feel silly, like I should send $3000 to Japan for earthquake relief instead. :(

What's up with the zero supply in the US?

It seems everybody is completely sold out of the XF100, and have been for a bit. Does this have to do with the earthquake in Japan? Or is there a technical issue that's halted production of the...

I moved from the 5DM2 to the 1DM4 for a few reasons (dual cards, higher quality build and 60fps video) and I'm happy. The lack of manual audio levels added to the latest 5DM2 firmware is unfortunate,...
