Re: Soliciting Comments on Startup 5D System
Well done Steve... that looks like a much better proposition to me. I like your lens choices!
A few (relatively cheap) essential components are:
1) a step up ring to go from the lenses to the...

Re: 5D mk3 HDMI output
Well, it's very useful indeed. I can't determine what the exact output specs are but for monitoring (via a small HD monitor) it's sharp and the signal isn't lost when hitting record, so it's much...

Re: 5D mk3 HDMI output
Thomas that's exactly what my post describes: if you hit the info button, remove most overlays, and enlarge the screen, you get to 80-90% screen fill. It is still letterboxed in both directions.

Re: 5D mk3 HDMI output
Bad news for you guys I'm afraid.
As you know there is a white box in the frame [magnification area overlay) that cannot be removed. In addition, as far as I can determine, the image only fills...

Re: Soliciting Comments on Startup 5D System
Absolutely concur with Nigel's recommendations (and David's earlier, about the kit being overly complex). When I started out with a 5DII more than 3 years ago I bought far too many accessories -...

Re: First impressions + rough and ready sample
And before bedtime... a couple of quick night shots (mounted on a bag, hence lopsided). The first scene is ISO 1600, the second is 3200 and a touch over-exposed.
I didn't push it any higher...

Re: First impressions + rough and ready sample
Thanks Andy/Markus,
Yes Jon, my thoughts are the 5d2 resolves no more real detail, but the aliasing sure makes it look sharper.
Here's a couple of quick (actual size) screen grabs of a usb...

Thanks guys,
Tim my thoughts on the Gh2 + Pix combo are mid-way down this thread:

First impressions + rough and ready sample
Sharing a rather ramshackle Canon 5D Mark III test for my DVinfo friends (blocked everywhere else, including Vimeo!). Just a quick run around town with my very obliging and gracious friend Angela to...

Re: External recorder test: 1.1 firmware @25p
Thanks Skip, Yes I'd encourage anyone interested to go to Vimeo and download the 1080 version - that's where you can really see the difference (and that's after it's already been converted to an...

Re: External recorder test: 1.1 firmware @25p
That's right Martyn, just firmware 1.1 without any modification. I did try a few hacks with only limited success.
The HMDI output recorded to ProRes is extremely detailed, C300 level I would...

Re: External recorder test: 1.1 firmware @25p
Hey Bill,
I finally got my hands on that Pix220 demo unit, for half an hour. Really nice to use. Footage looks superb.
The only downside is you lose focus magnification in the GH2 with HDMI...

Re: Canon 2012 NAB teaser
I really hope not Sanjin! That would be a deal breaker for many I'm sure. What you suggest makes a lot of sense based on what Sony did to create the FS100.
However, one must descend a long way...

Re: Canon 2012 NAB teaser
Thomas I had exactly the same reaction when I heard this announcement. You're right, Canon has a history of introducing their top tier model followed by its little brother.
For me, the tricky...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
Very interesting... can't wait to see some full res comparisons of the 5DIII against the Nikons... could this sensor configuration give the Canon a meaningful advantage. If so, how will the 1DX...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
David, you made an excellent case for this on the D800 thread, but a spec I'm very curious about on the 5DIII is the sensor width: 5760 = exactly 3x1920.
Care to chime in on the potential...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
Oh Sareesh, I guess we'll have to agree to differ on this one. I happen to own a GH2 but in my opinion the 5DII's image is much prettier (I miss mine). However, I eventually gave up on the 5DII...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
The 5DII was a groundbreaking camera but had several key hinderances in video: it seems practically all of these (bar ergonomics, it is a still camera after all) have been addressed. To what extent...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
There are some wonderful shots in "Color of Hope" and "Mario & Nette" - they look very crisp and deal with lots of tricky patterns/textures.
Just a pity they have been reduced to 1/4 resolution. ...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
From DP review's brief hands on:
"you'll fit 22 minutes of All-I footage on a 16GB card"
By my rough calculation that means it's a approx 100mbps codec. If well implemented Jon's comment is...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
Yes... The press release claims moire, false colour and other artifacts have been virtually eliminated. Is this likely to bode well for resolution too? The 5DII lags a long way behind more recent...
