Re: Which budget tripod to buy?

Looks like it's been replaced with the dv7000n. No idea of the difference to justify a 100% price increase.

Re: Which budget tripod to buy?

Velbon DV7000

£99, lighter than a manfrotto. Has no low level spreader so good for weddings and churches and has a crankable thingy to get up high over peoples heads.

Its all we use.

Re: Inexpensive glass on a nice camera?

Your unlikely to see the difference when shooting video.

The main thing to go for are lenses which match. We use various canon L lenses (just because there is no non L 70-200 with IS) and for us...

Re: Wedding on a yacht - need advice?

Don't shoot with an image stabilised lens while looking through a viewfinder.

Boat is rocking, image looks steady, brain wants to puke :)

Re: Cloud backup for Video?

Another thing about cloud backups are the restore times are slow.

We use iDrive for things like personal photos, music etc and downloading can be as slow, if not slower than uploading.

Amazon...

Re: Outsourcing Edits

Start by outsourcing the rough cut bits. For us we carve up the footage and catagorise everything, then putting the edit together is just like a big jigsaw puzzle. Outsource the syncing up of cameras...

Re: Cloud backup for Video?

Cloud backups are a no go for us. It takes around a week to upload 80GB on a 6mbps virgin line as they also cap your uploads after the first couple of gig.

We have a little blog article about our...

Re: Wow - bad tog

Its good to let off a little steam every now and then.

We had an interesting one. A friend of ours was filming a wedding this weekend and was having a few problems with the tog. When they got...

Re: High End Wedding Websites

Here in the UK we have our version of The Knot and Wedding Wire and your right about clients. Those browsing those sites are shopping around and use a directory to quickly find the cheapest or...

Re: Will you take this gig?

With this sort of gig there is also the chance that the tog could be a diva and deliberately try and prove a point about how video is the worst thing in the world.

We had a job once that we took....

Re: Canon C100 and WDR Profile

We use the WDR profile and leave sharpness as is. We apply a +3 noise reduction just to cover us in most situations upto around 8000 iso. Over that we have another picture profile with higher NR.

Re: Will you take this gig?

The problem with this sort of "We dont actually care about the video" ones is that when they get the film and its a crock of poop because of the limits you had you can bet your bottom dollar that...

Re: Credits anyone?

Did, but no way now. NO WAY!!!

We used to do it as a suprise by taking the names from the table plan. This didnt work as they often had mis-spellings or people there they didnt really want there....

Re: Drones

We've got one but I dont even fly for fun anymore. Lost it once in someones back garden after its GPS went squiffy. The fear of what 'could' happen was immense. I was half a mile from the...

Re: REQ: Minimum Setup Advice

Our very first paid job we tried this. "Why spend money on a tripod when I can buy a Glidecam". The next day we bought a second tripod :)

We have a blog post which may help. It lists our entire...

Re: upselling vs downgrading

Roger is bang on with the brand thing. I love the Beyonce analogy.

This is what I discovered when i attended the Stillmotion Evo. Their success wasn't just down to their work, the secret they...

Re: Two body 7D or one body 6D

How many do you have now?

If you have a 5DMK2 as your post suggests then the 7D is a perfect match (mk1 or mk2 though?). Almost identical footage.

The 6D is a great camera and amazing in low...

Re: upselling vs downgrading

Its all down to your market and what they can afford. If your in ireland where the economy is pretty bad at the moment and you only target the local market then you will be in bad shape. But with Ray...

Re: upselling vs downgrading

The thing to remember with Ray is that he does have the connections with photographers and planners that find these brides. So most people charging half of what he's charging will not work without...

Re: ? about C Log

850 or above is the recommendation. The same applies for WideDR.

Go below that and you will notice clipping in your image. We prefer to put on an ND filter and then up the ISO to compensate than...

Re: What format are you delivering raw footage for future editing to brides in?

We charge £295 for the raw footage and its a nice money spinner. We provide it on a 64GB usb stick as the C100 is so nice and compact with its files. For our DSLR shoots they get it on a 500GB hard...

Re: What camera will match my C100?

We use a 6D as our backup to a C100. Same great low light performance but way sharper than the 5DMK3.
