Re: Time to show you a videoI guess!

I think most people in this forum feel your low-light pain, regardless of what camera they're using! But it's sort of funny -- if Mk3s and C300s didn't exist, maybe everyone would be content with...

Lens whacking the photoshoot

Seems to be a split on this forum between people who enjoy the photoshoot, and people who think, basically, that the photoshoot is for photos, and that standing and posing makes for boring video. I...

Re: Pakistani dramatic wedding video (feedback please)

Hi,

I think one of the things I look for when watching any videos are shots that I don't do or don't commonly see, and I look for the creativity and the novelty of the idea (new to me anyway!)....

Re: Time to show you a videoI guess!

Well, one thing I often think to myself... your mileage will definitely vary... 5.6 is a good place to be for cinematography in general. Doesn't make focusing crazy, and gives you room to open up the...

Notes on a Still Motion video

I do like watching other people's work. Not sure how much I ever really take on board and how much it changes my own style, but anyways...

Someone recently linked me to this Still Motion video, on...

Re: Time to show you a videoI guess!

Some nice compositions in there -- for instance, I liked the slider shot on the guests' feet, and the bride with palm outstretched during the photoshoot.

Got a feeling that some of the focus that...

Re: Live streaming overseas

Have to say that, after wasting hours exploring options, those earlier posts that John linked to do cover everything!

Satellite schmatellite. Rental companies around here don't provide equipment...

Re: Live streaming overseas

Thanks for the helpful links! I think the whole idea of broadcasting weddings so that anyone, anywhere, with a mobile phone, can be watching at the same time, is kind of exciting.

One thing I'm...

Live streaming overseas

This one's new for me. Bride would like wedding streamed live overseas for relatives who can't be present.

Now, I'm able to live stream over the net. Every iPhone can do that. But what if she...

Re: First wedding video ....

My AUS$0.02 on how to alleviate fear:

-- preparation (go through all logistics with a fine-toothed comb; parking and traffc and travel times are very important; discuss with couple anything you're...

Re: instant replay solution?

Ok, these are probably dumb suggestions, because I'm untechnical, but anyway...

1. Capture to an external recorder that has playback. I've never personally used an Atomos Samurai or Ninja, but...

Re: Places one aches after a shoot

Snacks I take range from borderline healthy to outright junk. Sort of half-hearted gesturings towards health without properly committing.

Muesli bars, Le Snack cheese and biscuits, roasted...

Re: 9 months to get to this wedding!

Loved the steadicam stuff -- epic exterior shots in particular. That steadicam coverage you got when the bridal party entered reception possibly peed the photographer off, but I'm glad you captured...

Re: Getting a Direct Feed - What's your usual setup?

A quick thought to add: for at least two DJs I met, the best they could do was supply a USB copy of the night's sound. So now, in addition to 1/4" jacks, XLR, RCA, etc I make sure to carry some flash...

Places one aches after a shoot

I'm quite fond of lists, so here's another one.

1. Main place I ache is in my left thumb. Why? Opening and closing the locks on the monopod the entire day, as well as often straining the thumb...

Is there anything in between "documentary" and "cinematic"?

Random thought of the day... I'm not sure there really is much of a middleground, though I think everyone, including couples, hopes there is.

At one end of the market, there seem to be "David...

Gimics

Some gimmicky things I've either been guilty of taking to weddings or thought about taking:

-- Mannequin. (Surprisingly non-costly, incidentally.) Dress looks so much better than arranged on a...

Product or art?

Quick thought/question: To what extent can one really guarantee consistency to a client? Can a wedding video ever really be a consistent McDonald's-like product?

Re: Bride and Groom alone time - props?

What sorts of props were you thinking of?

I can recall photographers taking such (corny) things as: a giant balloon and an enormous "&" sign for the couple to hold. Maybe this could work for video...

Re: Recording Speeches

I think this whole thread is brilliant. Maybe it should be a sticky. Some great ideas on how to get good sound.

Noa, one trick I use is to split the RCA out from the DJ's mixer into two channels...

Re: Greek Wedding Ceremony, sights and sounds etc.

I think the unreliabity of sound systems (church or reception) is worth pointing out, as Noa and Michael have. So definitely one should have backup sources. At the same time, if it works I think...

Re: Greek Wedding Ceremony, sights and sounds etc.

What strikes me on looking at this:

-- Candle shot at the start -- appreciate that you went to the trouble of getting down to the height of the candles. Definitely more impressive image.
-- Shoes...

Do you ever try to learn a few words of that...

Not disconnecting from couple

Wondering if anyone has thoughts on this topic.

A big part of being a photographer I think is social skills. So, not only the technical knowledge of how to work a camera, and the ability to...

Re: back to back weddings

Sorry for resurrecting dead threads and spamming the forum a bit. I find all this stuff fascinating, and I've never had much chance to talk shop with wedding videographers in my area, so that's why...
