Re: First time shooting a concert (questions)

Dave is right on, as usual. I use good tripods. If I need to be light and fast with a camcorder I sometimes skip the big heavy video sticks and run around with the camera on a bare bones Bogen made...

Re: Stock lens minimum focus limit??

Hi Chris,

I can't give you the exact number your looking for because I have not tested for it yet. Remember your DOF chart is a guide, it will vary some from one lens to the next.

So far I...

Re: Delivery format

This conversation has taken place before. My answer is still the same as it was then. Unless you want to loose out on business it is not for us to decide how the client should receive the product. ...

Re: Stage shoot Settings?

Spotlight is a consumer camera setting. All it does is set auto exposure to underexpose your shot in an attempt to not blow out faces.

If you must use auto exposure (I don't for stages), you can...

Re: Who does showreels any more?

For any of you that have the footage and talent to put together something as good as Steve's example above it would be silly not to do it! Good stuff!

But that is coming from a guy whose website...

Re: First time shooting a concert (questions)

Matthias,

Al gave you very good advice. Handing a camcorder to an "assistant" and expecting him to get you usable footage is a bad idea unless he is experienced and talented at it.

There is a...

Re: What'd you buy the clients for Christmas?

Mike,

I have a situation very similar to yours. It is a dilemma because the answer is not easy. My first advice is to be very careful. Greasing the big boss and not ALL those other people in...

Re: Video Camera in NYC

Hi Doug,

Your question was discussed here:

http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/home-away-home/515842-nyc-tips-southerner.html

As for admittance into venues with a "pro looking camera" I can say it...

I have been buying gear from B&H since the days when I had to go to the store and buy a Popular Photography Magazine to find their phone number in the back of it...... Much easier to click here now...

Re: Zoom just got faster... then stops

Interesting. When I had problems with my camera it was a power supply issue too. My kit lens always has worked. I had problems with the Sony LA-E2 lens adapter (A-Mount) and my Metabones adapter...

Re: Zoom just got faster... then stops

Marlon,

Is your warranty still in effect? You can't live with that. It looks like a factory repair to me. And I know from experience you get very little, if any information back from a...

Re: A deeper question. "Ringing" fluid head

I'm thinking image stabilization is ON too. Many people don't understand it has the opposite effect when a camera is tripod mounted.

I am not a fan of Miller heads. I don't like the 5 stop...

Re: you guys see this?

I think we discussed it here. It is a Metabones knock off. Someone tried it. It got bad reviews.

Re: Inside the EA50 (or, soggy Sony and other learnings)

Chris,

$800 a years for photographers insurance, Wow! That is a lot. My "commercial" insurance that covers my business and gear is a commercial rider on my home owners policy. It is less than...

Re: Price Drop at BH on the EA50, w/ rebate

Yes it will do the shallow DOF you are asking about. The EA50 is a true video camera that creates images like a DSLR. Love mine.

B&H raised there price because of this rebate. They were...

Re: Exposure - What is "correct" - Science or opinion

If I understand the OP correctly I don't think he was asking us to go directly to the gamma curve specific to his instrument.

I believe he is asking for tips and techniques we use to calculate...

Re: Syncing the presenter's A/V content

The Barco screen Pro and PresPro are the AV standard around here too. For my own use I bought the Anycast because of the video production capabilities it has. You don't see too many of them.

Hope I did not offend you. When you mentioned following his laser pointer I got the idea you may be shooting the screen. You can't know someones level of experience from a few words on a...

If you are saying the second camera is going to record the screen for use in the end product I would not suggest that. Shooting the screen always yields a low quality representation of...

Re: Cinematographer ? what's that ?
