Re: stills from new Ghostbusters feature, shot on A7S

Dave, I believe you are correct on both counts. I had lunch with Hopper last year and I recall him bringing up both of those points.

stills from new Ghostbusters feature, shot on A7S

Thought you A7S users might be interested in this. Hopper Stone, who is the set photographer for the Ghostbusters reboot currently shooting in Boston, uses A7S bodies predominantly with the Sony...

Re: Blackmagic URSA B4 mount

I'd be really hard pressed to imagine any logical reason to use B4 primes in this day and age. The major advantage I can see for using a 2/3" camera would be the versatility, range and weight of the...

Re: "Alabama" pilot in the can...and a big announcement

It's fun to find old threads. This one left off with "Key & Peele" about to begin production of its first season and little did I know how much of an impact it would make! 78 million views of the...

Re: Lorinda Norton's 80's video camera makes the big time!

Mervyn, as well as Lorinda's camera I have in my possession two KY1900's that I use for recreations of period broadcast stuff. It turns out that while those were the cheapo cameras of the day, the...

Re: Lorinda Norton's 80's video camera makes the big time!

The legendary Lorinda-cam flies again, this time on the series "Playing House" which I'm currently shooting for USA Networks. This time it was recreating home movie footage from 1991 which the...

Re: Video Camera Stabilizers, quick question.

As always I'd suggest anyone getting into a Steadicam-style stabilizer to buy the Steadicam Operator's Handbook (on Amazon, etc), It's largely written for "big rigs" but even if you are working with...

Re: Video Camera Stabilizers, quick question.

I am actually 5 yrs "retired" from Steadicam operating but I think physics haven't changed much since!

Chris--a little nervous by the suggestion that you don't always need fingers on the post. It...

Re: Video Camera Stabilizers, quick question.

As always, it is what works for you. However I suggest you look at BTS footage of working Steadicam operators, or demos/interviews with the Steadicam folk at NAB etc. and you will see that very few...

Old HV20 returns as a working prop!

On the current series I'm shooting, we had a storyline where one of the characters wants to try out for "The Bachelor" so she has another character shoot her audition video. The footage from the...

Re: Your Work Sucks - Being honest without burning bridges

Haha Darren, I can well remember in my operator years having DP's whisper to me to "reach for the practical", asking me to push the frame away from a good composition to an awkward one that happens...

Re: need lighting input! HMI's & bright windows

Those results are consistent with what I suggested in my earlier post--you got satisfactory results with M18's through light diffusion, whereas I recommended M40's but would have used full grid or...

Re: need lighting input! HMI's & bright windows

I think this is the key to it all. By "I am tasked", Darren, I am assuming that you mean the client has specifically requested that you maintain detail outside the windows. If that is the case, this...

Re: need lighting input! HMI's & bright windows

Let us know how you make out. It's probably going to be tough to get the head back as far as you would need to in a conference room vs what you will be doing with the dancers, so maybe simulate your...

Re: need lighting input! HMI's & bright windows

I would recommend that you go to your buddy's rental house and shoot a test with the 1200's against a similar facing window so you can audition the setup (and maybe he has various diffusions skinned...

Re: need lighting input! HMI's & bright windows

A few more pieces of information are important to consider here, chiefly, what camera? Are you shooting log? The better the dynamic range of the camera, the more you can get away with less firepower...

This is a small company doing custom work, and their Megaflex cable is becoming the go-to for Steadicam and gimbal operators who demand a super-flexible BNC:

Re: powering Sony a7s with external 12V battery

I was linking to the P-tap cable, they've added those battery solutions to the page since. I myself use Anton Bauer Dionics which are priced similarly, I suppose "outrageous" is all relative.

Re: Dedolight & Litepanels "Daylight"

OK interesting. I haven't had the opportunity to use either of those units yet myself.

Green/magenta wouldn't show up in the Kelvin measurement though.

If you had the chance to take a frame...

Re: Dedolight & Litepanels "Daylight"

Or, it's possible the Litepanels may be magenta...!

The older Litepanels were not particularly color accurate. I haven't used the Astra models yet. Which model are you using?

Very lightly used Nanoflash.

Screen was replaced due to a scratch. I kept the protective plastic on, as you can see in the pictures. When you peel that off the screen underneath will be pristine....

Re: Deviating from the 180-degree shutter rule?

If you are looking for a rule of thumb, I would say that 45 degrees one way or another from 180 would be the most you could go without the effect starting to becoming noticeable, i.e. a 135 degree...
