I believe you have to do that with your remote control, to show it (and make it completely dissapear) We once had the opposite problem, where we used our xl1 for a small live event and the footage...

I think you can also do that with a plugin for AE...

I think you can also do that with a plugin for AE from trapcode, the Echospace plugin. That wil sort of duplicate it for you, might save you some minutes.

Maybe the firewire cable broke the firewire on your camera. I had this problem recently, 1 of the 4 pins in the cable was bended en broke one of the four pins in my camera and was therefore unusable
