Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
Regarding 1080p60, of course everybody wants it. Keep in mind that such a feature would go beyond a firmware update. It would require enough speed from the sensor, DSP, and storage system. It might...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
On the 5D2, one can press the AF button on the top of the camera and select face detection. This removes all overlays. The image is scaled to a 1620 x 910 window. Previously, that additional line...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
Here's a sample video!
- Moire reduction looks real.
- Compression looks to be improved.
- Still some rolling shutter, but definitely reduced.
Nice!

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
As expected, there's no clean HDMI output. IMO, if the new ALL-I codec is good enough, it won't matter. The reality is that portable HDMI recorders also compress the video. Realistically, who will...

Re: Canon USA Announces EOS 5D Mark III
No problem, Chris. The word is out!
Less moire and color artifacts. Check.
ALL-I encoding. Check.
720p60. Check.
29 minutes with auto file spanning. Check.
Timecode. Check.

Re: 5D3 embargo lifted?
The vendor may have pulled the page, but after searching on "5D", the left column still has filter selections for 22MP and MPEG-4. Selecting those filters yields no results. Yet. :)

Re: Rode SVM Pro?
The stereo version is best when you can put the mic on a stand and you want to capture the ambient sound. The mono version is best when you want it on camera and/or you are capturing dialog.

Re: Lens Advice - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L or
Yeah, tracking movement is one trick. The other is filming in natural environments, rather than in rooms and on streets with lots of vertical and horizontal lines. Those lines not only tell the...

5D3 embargo lifted?
It's March 2nd in Australia and Ted's Cameras in Australia now shows their pre-order page, including photos and specs. It's early morning there, Canon hasn't made an announcement, but it looks like...

Re: Lens Advice - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L or
I find 35mm and wider on a full frame cam to be fine handheld - when tracking something that's moving. At NAB last year, I shot a lot of stuff where I would start on a logo then move to show a...

There's some evidence of a March 2nd announcement - a flyer from Italy for a "breakfast with EOS" and a stage being built in Shanghai. However, there are no major press invitations yet...

Re: Lens Advice - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L or
If you already have the zoom, there's no need for the 100L, unless you want a macro or prefer to travel with a smaller lens.
I have a 70-200L II IS at work and when we got it, I thought it would...

Rick is right. I built a breakaway cable with the recommended connectors and was surprised that it has to be manually unlocked. (Which can be done quickly and easily, BTW.) The name "breakaway"...

Re: Conforming 7d External Audio to Neoscene?
I think that information was regarding the 30.00 fps video from the original 5D2. With the Canon 5D2 firmware upgrade, all of the Canon DSLRs shoot 29.97 fps, so Cineform no longer re-conforms or...

Re: My c300 is quite loud
Thanks Chris.
It's a small thing, but it's good not to give the wrong impression. If anything the most impressive feature of the C300 is that its (video) noise is so low. (And, no, I don't work...

Re: What kind of lenses are you planing to use
That's not quite right. For a 5D2 or other full frame camera, you might want 24, 35, 50, and 85, but for an APS-C or Super 35 camera you would want 18, 24, 35, and 50. The mount doesn't change...

Re: My c300 is quite LOUD
A better thread title might be that the camera is "loud", rather than noisy. Every time I read the thread, I think of image noise rather than the sound of a fan.

Re: Question about bitrate..
One thing that adds to the variability of the bit rate is Hamming Coding.
In Hamming Coding, the most likely DCT pattern gets a very simple code, say, 0. The next two most common patterns get 10...
