Based on what I see the costs today for pro UAVs capable of flying a 15lb payload the cost is $20-50k. $5-10k will get you a multi-rotor bird...

Something that can reduce the likelihood of this happening is to set the write protect tab on the card before putting it in the computer. Especially important with MACs. Your cards will thank you.
