Re: Videography workshop in Aug/Sep 2011

We are likely going to be doing one in Miami soon. No details to release just yet, though. d;-)

Re: What SD Card do you Trust for Weddings?

Good thing I've never done a single camera shoot then. d;-)

Re: Why not give all raw footage?

In my opinion the worst thing you can ever say to a client is 'no'. That's not to say I don't say 'no'. I definitely do, but I've learned over the years to find a way to say 'yes' that leaves the...

2 Odd Zoom H4n Issues - Help?

So I have two issue with my Zoom H4n right now.

The first involves recording and naming files. For some reason the Zoom is not recording and naming files sequentially. So for example, the first...

Re: Solution For DSLR Record Limit

Seriously. People. The purpose of this thread was to help those who HAVE chosen to work with DSLR's. It's not a thread for discussing the advantages/disadvantages of every camera on the market. ...

Re: Potential issues letting brides cousin film too?

A few thoughts on your comments ...

If we don't say anything to the bride about how an amateur running around at a wedding could potentially affect the product we produce for her, doesn't that...

Re: Solution For DSLR Record Limit

Yeah, that cam is looking nice but most of us probably aren't going to run out and replace our DSLR's with it right away either. d;-)

Re: Solution For DSLR Record Limit

Your video cameras can't match the image quality and low light ability (or DoF) of my DSLR's. d;-)

Re: Solution For DSLR Record Limit

Easy. You simply press one button on the timer to stop and reset the timer. Then hit the button again when you decide to start recording again. That's why I liked this timer. Ease of use.

Re: Solution For DSLR Record Limit

I did see that but personally I don't feel like I have the time to try and build a device to keep the camera recording. Also, we don't use T2i's so Magic Latern is not an option. Thanks, though!

Solution For DSLR Record Limit

So DSLR's are awesome but for us event filmmaker's the 12 minute record limit can really be a pain. We tried out an idea at our last wedding and loved it, and thought we'd share it with the world. ...

Re: Celine // Michael - Say The Word

Great edit Peter. That was some of your best stuff for sure. Love the music, the use of actual audio, the pacing, and some killer shots in there too. A+ my friend.

Re: Potential issues letting brides cousin film too?

First and foremost I wouldn't worry to much about him gaining anything from you by shooting. He could just as easily watch what you're doing from his seat if he wasn't filming.

So what ARE the...

Re: Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS

The Canon 70-200 2.8 IS definitely has a noisy IS (sounds like grinding) and you won't want to rely on audio from a shotgun on the camera. Not bad as a backup, but not good for primary. Without a...

Re: Breaking up your shooting time

She's full of it and just trying to make you feel bad and justify her own ridiculous request to herself. Let her go. She has a pocket-full of red flags.

Re: How to Make Processional or Full Ceremony Less Boring?

With 3 cameras to work with I would consider using them in the roles of wide (safe), tight (personal) and creative (money). For a long form you definitely need the safe shot and the personal shot.

Re: Breaking up your shooting time

We don't market ourselves on the number of hours, but since that is your approach here is my advice. The hours in a package should be for 'continuous presence', meaning you are available for filming...

Re: ND Filters vrs Vari ND Filters: Realistically are they needed

I would say you don't 'need' ND filters. Are they nice to have and use in some situations? Definitely. But realistically you can make adjustments in-camera to keep your exposure under control.

Re: How rewarding wedding videography business?

Re: What's Your Audio Setup?

We've been using Olympus DVRs for the longest time now. I still remember when we switched away from wireless how many people tried to tell us it was a mistake, but it's not. You get great audio...

Re: Other Videographers....

Honestly a better approach would be to ask to take them out to lunch. At the end of the day you want information from them and at the moment you're asking for their time and information for free. I...

Re: Hague Glid Pod

I would honestly never purchase something like that. Like Noa said you can recreate the same motion with a tripod if you wanted, and so it's one less bulky thing to pack. Even a merlin or a...

Re: ND Filters vrs Vari ND Filters: Realistically are they needed

ND filters are nice, and we have some, but on a wedding day I just prefer not to use them because of the rapid nature of the day. It's also entirely possible to forget you have the ND filter on when...
