Re: Clothing selection for dark skinned couple
Neutrals for sure, so you'll be able to expose for the skin tones and not blow out the clothing color. You need a good contrast, as the faces are the most important subjects in the frame and you're...

Re: New GH2 owner......first question
Welcome to the world of GHx's! It's extremely rewarding if you understand some photographic principles. Since it looks like you have a ways to go in that regard, I'll give a quick rundown of the...

Re: Do you use digital audio recorders?
No, you won't find any of the screw-in jacks on these recorders.
Almost all of the recorders come with a "hold" switch, which deactivates all the other buttons on the recorder. I usually tape the...

Re: Do you use digital audio recorders?
I use an Olympus DS40 in the groom's pocket with a lavaliere mic, and an Olympus DM420 to record speaker output from the church's soundboard (to get the priest/reader/etc.). They work amazingly well,...

Re: Toasts
You're absolutely right -- that's why I said that it's in my experience. It's all part of my style and workflow. Every once in a while I consider using 2 cameras during the toasts -- still with a...

Re: Toasts
In my experience, more than one camera or shooter at a reception is overkill. Good single-camera shooting and skilled editing can make for great watching.

Re: Photo Montage in HD?
Sometimes what I do is to put 2 or more smaller photos onto the same screen. It may take some creative cropping and arrangement, but it usually comes out pretty nice.

Re: 3D Weddings?
I'll never offer it either. I think it's a fad anyhow, just as it's shown to be a passing gimmick in decades past. I can barely stand to watch a 90-minute 3D movie in the theater, let alone editing...

Re: 32Gb or 16Gb SDHC
I like using 8 and 16GB cards for different parts of the day, for the sake of organization. When I get back to the editing bay and begin to transfer and edit, I quickly know which clips go where....

Re: Shooting and Delivery Formats
I shoot HD, and deliver DVD's and Blu-rays with every package. Almost every couple I work with is impressed that I include Blu-rays at no extra charge. They're cheap and as easy to burn as DVD's.

Re: What's your typical wedding video duration?
I give the clients 2 edits on the same DVD . . . full edit and highlights. The full edit runs 90-110 minutes, the highlights are around 10 minutes. My clients love it. They don't want a quick,...

Re: Training
I took some training in the 90's when I first started in videography. I'm trying to un-learn a lot of what I was told, because it simply doesn't apply to my style, and much of it was dead wrong.
I...

Re: How important is a logo/intro
On the DVD, I try to stay away from "advertising" myself -- I only use a small, modest notice at the end. The video is all about them, and I don't feel that hyping myself is very beneficial. On the...

Re: Wedding Contracts
If you Google it, there are lots that come up that you can pull from. However, it's advisable to get the contract into the hands of your attorney to make sure it's all kosher.

Re: Your actions when bride cut filming in half?
Hi Michael,
I was talking in general terms, not just the wedding business. This is my first year back into weddings in about 10 years, so I really have no comparison at this point. So far this...
